Maoist ‘zonal commander' Naveen Majhi (37), wanted in 110 Maoist cases in four States, was arrested in Hazaribagh District, the Police said on June 1, reports The Hindu. “Naveen Majhi, the zonal commander and member of the Bihar-Jharkhand-North Chhattisgarh Special Area Committee was arrested on Thursday,” Superintendent of Police (SP) Pankaj Kamboj and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Commandant R. N. Sampar told a news conference in Hazaribagh. Majhi, wanted in Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal and Bihar, once commanded over 1000 cadres under him, the SP said, adding that as the figure had gone down to 30, he came to recruit tribal boys and girls. Majhi guided the Police to a house from where his companion Gita alias Sangeeta alias Manisha was arrested, he said. INR 382, 000, a cell phone, some documents and clothes were seized from the house, he added. Earlier, it was reported on May 29 that a Maoist suspected to be Navin Manjhi alias Banshi was arrested.

Rath on June 2 awarded INR 7.21 lakh to the jawans and officers of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and District Police who captured dreaded Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) zonal commander Naveen Manjhi on May 28, reports The Telegraph. Hazaribagh Superintendent of Police (SP) Kamboj said the state police would also sanction another INR 10 lakh for the 145 policemen, three companies of CPRF jawans and the officers who were part of the mission.

Maoists raided the construction site; carrying country made weapons on Tuesday night (June 05) and threatened the night guard to leave the site. The Maoists then set ablaze the machines at the site. Sub-Divisional Police Officer-in-charge of Lohardaga district, Ram Gulam Sharma, said the Maoists threatened the contractors of dire consequences and forced them to stop the development work.

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has set up camps in Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist)-infested villages of Jharkhand to combat Left Wing Extremism (LWE) and bridge the gap between villagers and Security Force (SF) personnel, reports newstrackindia.com quoting ANI. The CRPF and Jharkhand Police have launched joint operations in Sarju village of Jharkhand's Latehar District to flush out rebels operating in the area. Inspector General of Police, Palamu Range, Deepak Verma, said the presence of the SFs in the village would increase employment opportunities for locals. Villagers expressed happiness over the presence of paramilitary camps and said the situation would improve with the presence of SFs in the area.

Sources said a group of about 15 armed Maoists raided the house of village head Yugal Kishore Tanti and Jeevlal Swansi, dragged out of their houses and took them to the Kuitopa culvert before they were shot dead. While Tanti was the traditional village head of Kuitopa, Swansi was the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Yuva Morcha president of Bandgaon block (administrative division). He was an active member of the CPI (Maoist) [Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist)]," Sub-divisional Police Officer Chandan Kumar Singh told at a press conference. Another extremist of People’s Liberation front of India (PLFI), identified as Kuleshwar Sahu, was overpowered and arrested by the police at Lawakera village under Palkot Police Station in the previous night, he said. "The upper limit is Rs 12 lakh and the lowest is Rs 30, 000," Inspector General of Police S N Pradhan said. Out of 150 hardcore Maoists in the State, a list of 111 Maoists, including 30 from other State, was released by the Police headquarters, Pradhan said. Three suspected Maoists and four arms suppliers were arrested in the case. Acting on a tip-off, the Police raided some places at Tupudana on the outskirts of Ranchi and recovered the explosives in the night of June 25. A total of 3,795 electronic detonators, about 9,800 ordinary detonators, one ton explosives, including nine quintal ammonium nitrate, 1,900 metre fuse wire, six gelatin pieces, INR 20,000 in cash, four mobile phones and a motorcycle were seized during the search operation. Police said, “The arrested persons were preparing to hand over the explosives to Kundan Pahan, the most wanted Maoist.”

Policemen posing as farmers arrested Ravi Ghodai (20), an armed cadre of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) Ghurabandha squad, while he was crossing a bridge over the Subernarekha at Dalbhumgarh in Ghatshila sub-division in East Singhbhum District on June 27, reports The Telegraph. Ghodai, a resident of Nandigram in West Midnapore District of West Bengal, was arrested around 4am at Gian village, 70 kilometres from Jamshedpur. He was on his way to Dalbhumgarh, with an aide. Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Naresh Prasad said they were tipped off that two Maoists were planning to cross the Subernarekha at Golaghat from Ghurabandha. The Police were able to arrest Ghodai while, the other managed to flee. The Police seized a loaded pistol and an empty cartridge from Ghodai’s possession. Prasad said Ghodai divulged that he belonged to the 15-member squad led by Maoist ‘zonal commander’ Kanhu Munda, which is active in Ghurabandha. “Ghodai revealed that the two were headed for Dalbhumgarh to carry out a poster campaign and a recce for planting explosives,” said Prasad. At Gian village, the Police recovered two old guns, a photocopy machine and Maoist literature from a hideout.
