Two minors, who were forcibly employed in the children's squad of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), were rescued by a joint team of the District Police and CRPF from Gumla forests near Jamti village in Gumla District on June 2, reports The Telegraph. The Security Force (SF) personnel, who have been combing Bishunpur block since May 29, found a boy and a girl cowering in the forests near Jamti village. Asked, the boy, who was aged 15, and the girl, 11, said they were from Gumla but had been forcibly picked up for Nakul Yadav's bal dasta (child soldiers) some five months ago. Yadav happens to be a Bihar-Jharkhand regional coordination committee member of CPI-Maoist and one of the most dreaded Maoists of this region. "Yes, it's a positive development that two children have been rescued in the ongoing combing operation. Tomorrow, they will be produced before district child welfare committee. 10-day-long anti-Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist)operations came to an end on June 7 after troopers found explosive materials and fire arms used by the Maoists in Bulbul forests under Bagru Police Station limits of Peshrar block in Lohardaga District, reports The Times of India. Lohardaga Superintendent of Police (SP) Kartik S said that during the operations the Security Forces busted a Maoist camp. However, the Maoists managed to escape taking advantage of the thick forest cover. "Three black dresses used by Maoists, carbon papers, three steel containers, seal makers, 100 m electric wire and other items used for making bombs were found," SP said. The exercise book and a book on Indian Constitution suggest that the Maoists were imparting education to their cadre in the camp.

As many as five Block Development Officers (BDOs) in Jharkhand have received letters bearing Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) letter-head asking them to quit their jobs within 15 days or see their respective office buildings getting blown up by dynamite, reports The Telegraph. They would be responsible for the resultant loss of life and property, the letters added. The BDO of Kolebira in Simdega District received the threat letter on June 9 by ordinary post while his counterparts in Murhu, Khunti; Mandar, Ranchi; and Saria in Giridih Districts received them two days ago. A few days earlier, Giridih's Birni BDO had also received a similar letter. Interestingly, Khunti superintendent of Police (SP) Anish Gupta went on to add that involvement of any rebel outfit was unlikely. "It seems that these are jobs of some mischievous elements. All the wings of the police are working in tandem with each other and the case will be solved soon," he added.

Suspected cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoists (CPI-Maoist) set a house on fire in Mudakati village in Ghatsila sub-division in East Singbhum District on June 11, reports The Times of India. The Maoists targeted the house suspecting the owner's two sons to be behind the increased security operation in the sub-division. The owner, Pradhan Hembram's sons are Police staff and Maoists suspect that the two are Police informers who are responsible for the sudden spurt in anti-Maoist drive. The suspected Maoists ransacked the house before setting it on fire. They also put up posters in the premises asking the house owner to leave the village.Sources said, Pradhan's sons had links with the Nagrik Suraksha Samiti (NSS) before they joined the Police ranks. The Centre on June 27 asked four Naxal-Left-Wing Extremism (LWE)-hit States-Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal-to frequently hold Unified Command meetings for formulating a strategy to tackle the issue effectively, reports The Times of India. The Union Minister of Home Affairs (UMH) Rajnath Singh conveyed this at the Eastern Zonal Council meeting held in Ranchi, official sources said. Singh also cited the example of Jharkhand where splinter groups of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) have been active and tackling them required coordination among forces and better strategy. The Zonal Council meeting took stock of various development schemes carried out in LWE-affected areas and found that Bihar lagged in construction of fortified Police Stations. Out of the 45 sanctioned fortified Police Stations in Bihar, 40 are yet to be constructed. In Jharkhand, out of 73 sanctioned fortified Police Stations, only two are yet to be completed, in Odisha, out of 52 sanctioned fortified Police Stations, 18 are yet to be constructed and in West Bengal, out of the 17 fortified Police Stations, one is yet to be completed. In 2011, the Centre had announced that it would fund construction of 400 fortified Police Stations in 83 worst Maoist-hit Districts in the country at a cost of INR 20 million each.
