Two pairs of Maoist uniform, some clothes, switch board, polythene sheets and wire bundles were also seized from the same spot. The Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh has written to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh stressing greater involvement by the Central Government to improve the effectiveness of the government's strategy in fighting the Naxal [Left-Wing Extremism (LWE)] influence, reports The Economic Times, on March 2. The Minister further writes that lack of power, intermittent mobile connectivity, very poor health and education facilities are top complaints of the people in the LWE-affected areas. Back from a two-day visit to one of the worst affected districts of the country, Nuapada, in the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border area, Ramesh has suggested to the Prime Minister that the central government increase its presence in the "hotspots" in LWE affected areas located in junction of two or three states. Ramesh said in his letter to the Prime Minister, "My visit to Nuapada reinforces a point I have been making to you often that we need to enhance the presence of the Central Government those hotspots which are in the bi-junction and tri-junction areas. Many of these hotspots are in remote and inaccessible areas, which call for decisive intervention on our part by expanding the social and physical infrastructure". Ramesh stressed that efforts to contain the Maoist influence would remain ineffective as long as these issues are not addressed.
