Narayan Kaji Shrestha leader of Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist Centre (CPN-Maoist Centre) and Netra Bikram Chand, General Secretary of Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (CPN-Maoist-Chand) held a meeting on March 2, reports Khabar Hub. Chand reached Shrestha’s residence in Hattiban of Lalitpur District and called for a unity among the like-mined leaders on the issue of nationalism during the meeting. The meeting between Shrestha and Chand took place at a time when leaders including Shrestha in the CPN-Maoist Centre have been deeply divided over the issue of Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC). Disgruntled CPN-Maoist Centre leaders including Shrestha have intensified meetings after the MCC was ratified by the Parliament.

Mohan Baidhya-led Communist Party of Nepal-Revolutionary Maoist (CPN-Revolutionary Maoist), the Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (CPN-Maoist-Chand), the Rishi Kattel-led Nepal Communist Party (NCP), the Biswobhakta Dulal aka Aahuti-led Baigyanik Samajwadi Party (BSP), the Karnajit Budhathoki-led Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist Center Socialist (CPN-Maoist Center Socialist) and the C.P. Gajurel-led Deshbhakta Jana Ganatantrik Morcha-Nepal (DJGM-Nepal) called a bandh in protest against MCC. Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist Centre (CPN-Maoist Centre) Pushpa Kamal Dahal aka Prachanda on March 7 proposed to discuss on the ‘note of dissent’ of the leaders over the US grant Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) project after local election, reports Khabar Hub. Addressing the CPN-Maoist Centre’s Central Committee meeting, Prachanda urged the leaders to consider the significance of ‘explanatory notes’ added to the MCC compact during the parliamentary ratification. Chairman Prachanda said that the MCC ‘note of dissent’ kept by the three was the property of the party and it would be kept safe. “This issue will be discussed after the local elections,” he said.

According to NC Spokesperson Prakash Sharan Mahat, the Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting of the party decided to forge an electoral alliance on the basis of need and local political situation in the local level polls scheduled for May 13.
