According to NDEX, the group had been demanding the derivative and commodity exchange market to pay hefty amount as donation. The new ID cards identify the disqualified combatants as "UNMIN discharged". As reported earlier, about 300 ‘disqualified’ PLA combatants have been staging sit-in protest UCPN-M headquarters in Paris Danda (Okhaldhunga District) and Koteshwor (Kathmandu District), with demands including removal of the ‘disqualified’ tag.

This is the party´s first general convention following its split from the UCPN-M in June 2012, the 7th in the history of the party and its mother party, and the first in 21 years. Altogether 1,200 representatives, 400 observers, 300 volunteers and 100 cultural artists are participating in the convention. The five-day convention will conclude on January 13. Representatives of fraternal communist parties from 11 countries including USA, India, Turkey and Canada, who were also present, expressed their good wishes and solidarity. The general convention approved the names of 44 members while the remaining members will be appointed later on. United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF), a major partner of the ruling coalition, on January 24 (today) has ruled out the possibility of forming an alliance with the UCPN-M for Constituent Assembly (CA) polls while stating that a national consensus Government-led by opposition parties will also not be acceptable to them. Madhesi leaders said that they would not accept a Government-led either by the Nepali Congress (NC) or the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) and accused both of the parties of standing against Madhesi issues. Senior Vice-chairman of Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Democratic (MPRF-D) Rameshwar Raya Yadav told NC and CPN-UML termed the four-point agreement anti-national and they are against autonomous Madhesi province. How can we accept a Government led by them?" Sadbhawana Party (SP) Spokesperson Santosh Kumar Mehta said a national consensus Government should be formed under the leadership of an independent person if opposition parties do not want to join the new Government-led by any ruling party. UDMF concluded that promulgation of a new statute from outside the CA would not be acceptable to them. Top-brass of Madhes-based political parties said that a taskforce comprising Senior Vice-chairman of Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Democratic (MPRF-D) Rameshwor Raya Yadav, Vice-chairman of Tarai Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP) Brikhesh Chandra Lal, MPRF-Republican leader BP Yadav, TMDP-Nepal Vice-chairman Braj Kishor Singh and Sadbhawana Party General Secretary Manish Kumar Singh is entrusted with formulating the program. The Madhesi alliance has maintained that the previously agreed-upon and disputed issues in the new constitution should be owned as they are. UDMF has also urged the president to approve ordinances forwarded by Government. The leaders discussed to change the existing bureau system into command system. Under the system, power will be centralized in the commands, which will be headed by top leaders. Under the bureau system, the state committees are more powerful than the bureaus. There are 14 state committees, including geographical and non-geographical state committees. UCPN-M Vice-chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha on January 31 said the upcoming General Convention of his party would reorient its ideological course of achieving “socialism through new-democracy” (propounded by Chairman Mao in China) to achieving “socialism through capitalism”, reports The Himalayan Times. Shrestha said‚ “We have concluded it is not possible to achieve socialism via the model of new-democracy in the current national and global context.” He said as society was preferred capitalism‚ the party had decided to change its ideological course. To achieve this‚ he said national policy and programmes should be framed and implemented as per the social-democratic way while maintaining the spirit of communism. “We need to maintain the communist spirit‚ but programmes should be social-democratic so that we can achieve socialism via capitalism.” Shrestha defined the new party line for socialism as a significant “departure from the present political line that follows Maoist doctrine.”
