The White House confirmed that President Obama discussed his plans for a gradual transition of responsibilities from US to Afghan authorities with three key members of his new war team. Two of these, the new US commander for Afghanistan and the new US ambassador in Kabul will be implementing his civilian and military strategy in the war-ravaged country. Another key member, the new Secretary of Defence, Leon Panetta, will supervise US war efforts from his headquarters in Washington. “The President and his team discussed implementation of the next phase of our strategy in Afghanistan,” the White House said.

Up to 600 terrorists from Afghanistan attacked two Pakistani villages, Nusrat Dara and Kharo in Upper Dir District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on July 6, targeting soldiers and pro-Government tribal militia, reports Daily Times. “According to reports from the two villages, between 550-600 terrorists launched the attack at around 5 in the morning and the fighting continued for several hours,” Police official Abdul Sattar said. Two schools and a mosque were destroyed Nusrat Dara, while a school was destroyed in the adjoining village of Saro Kili. Pakistani Security Forces killed three terrorists and arrested three others, said Ghulam Muhammad, a Government Official in Upper Dir. In addition, two members of a militia fighting the terrorists were killed and two others wounded, Ghulam added. Another official said four pro-Government tribesmen who fought along with troops were wounded in the attack.

Sources said that SFs received information that militants were planning to attack different places in Kohat and dumped huge quantity of heavy weapons under the ground in a house and a mosque at Shahu Khel, an area near the border between Hangu and Orakzai Agency, for the purpose. SFs raided the places but militants managed to escape into the nearby jungle. However, SFs dug the ground in the house and mosque and recovered 75 MMRK guns, 82 MM mortar guns, 86 rockets of MMRK, 29 rockets of 7 RPG, 20 rockets of RRK, huge quantity of automatic weapons and thousands of cartridges of machinegun.

Police said that the twenty-one year old suicide bomber first threw a hand grenade towards Adezai Peace Lashkar head Dilawar Khan and later tried to run towards him in order to kill him by blowing himself up.
