The Peshawar High Court on November 1 ruled that the recent terrorism convictions by the military courts in the province were wrongful and were based on ill-will and not evidence, reports Dawn. In its 173-page detailed judgment on the recently-accepted 75 petitions of military court convicts, a bench consisting of Chief Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth and Justice Lal Jan Khattak ruled that while exercising their power of judicial review in light of the judgments of the apex court, it accepted all petitions, set aside the impugned convictions and sentences, being based on malice in law and facts, and directed respondents, including federal and provincial governments, to free all convicts and internees if they’re not wanted in any other case(s). “The way all convicts have been proceeded against right from their arrest in different parts of the country in the custody of the agencies and landing them in the internment centres for months/ years, are not appreciated at all for the purpose of convictions,” it ruled. A soldier was killed and another critically injured while neutralising an improvised explosive device (IED) at Mohmad Gat in the Mohmand District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on November 7, reports Dawn. A Superintendent of Police (Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Tahir Khan Dawar,has been found dead in Afghanistan on November 13, 18 days after he was abducted by unidentified militants and whisked away to Afghanistan,reports Times of India. SP Tahir Khan Dawar left his residence inIslamabad for an evening walk on October 27 but did not return home.His mobile phone's last location was traced somewhere in Jhelum town ofPunjab. After being contacted, he said that he was fine and therewas no threat to his life.The Islamabad Police had constituted various teams to trace him.Peshawar City Police in a statement said that the officer had been on a short leave to Islamabad to meet his family. His abductors released a picture of him along with a letter of the Khurasani faction of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP)'s claiming responsibility for the kidnapping and the killing.Information Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shaukat Yusafzai said that Dawar was ruthlessly killed by the abductors inAfghanistan. He was in captivity for 18 days. The Afghan Foreign Ministry has confirmed the recovery of a body with the service card of Dawar.The ministry has informed the Pakistan Embassy in Kabul that the body was found by local people in Dur Baba District ofNangarhar province.The body, being transferred to Jalalabad by the Afghan authorities, was yet to be received by the Consul General of Pakistan inJalalabad. At least two persons were killed when a roadside bomb exploded near a vehicle in Bajaur District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on November 21, reports Dawn.An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted along the road by unidentified militants went off as the vehicle passed through the Charmang area of Bajaur's Nawagai tehsil (revenue unit), an official in the District's political administration said.Two persons riding the vehicle, identified as Amanullah and Gul Badin, died as a result of the explosion. At least 33 people, including 22 Shias, were killed and more than 51others injured in a suicide attack in the crowded marketplace near an imambargah (Shia place of worship) in the Juma Bazar (Friday Market) of Kalaya town inLower Orakzai District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on November 23, 2018 reports Dawn. Two persons were killed and unspecified numbers of persons were injured in a remote-controlled bomb blast in Inayat Kaly area of Bajaur District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on November 29, reports Daily Times. “The blast took place in a remote area and our officials are still confirming how many are wounded in the explosion. The personnel of levies force were in the area but it is still unconfirmed whether they suffered any casualties,” Bajaur Deputy Commissioner Usman Mehsud said, adding that the dead have been identified as Amanullah and Amir Muhammad.
