At least four persons were injured and 10 houses damaged when militants fired rockets and mortar shells at Adezai, a suburban village of provincial capital Peshawar in the night of March 1, reports Dawn. Four persons received injuries when shells and rockets landed in their houses. A police post was also damaged in the attack. Farman Khan, a leader of anti-Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Adezai Qaumi (community) Lashkar (tribal militia), said that they had information about a possible attack by militants. He alleged that they were prepared to counter the attack but local Police dodged them by deploying their volunteers somewhere else. “We have information that militants are jointly headed by Tariq Afridi of TTP and some of leaders of Khyber Agency-based Lashkar-e-Islam (LI) as both of them are considering Adezai Qaumi Lashkar as major hurdle in their way,” Farman Khan said.

a Lashkar (tribal militia) fighting the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in the Adezai outskirts of Peshawar has threatened it would stop its fight if the Government does not issue the militia ration and ammunition within one week. Dilawar Khan, chief of the Adezai Qaumi Lashkar, told a press conference that the Government had “an ambiguous policy” about the TTP in Adezai and accused local legislators of supporting the TTP. “The local MPA (member of provincial assembly) and MNA (member of national assembly) of Awami National Party (ANP) do not support the volunteers of lashkar against the TTP as they don’t belong to their party,” he alleged. He said the tribes of Adezai formed the lashkar in 2008 on the instruction of Government. “Our 47 people including former chief of lashkar Haji Abdul Malik and several commanders have been killed in blasts, attacks and exchange of fire with militants so far,” he said. He said that at the time of lashkar formation, Capital City Police Officer Suleman and former commissioner Azam Khan had assured them that they would be provided with ration, arms and ammunition, adding, “But the commitment has yet to materialised.”

Senior Minister of Provincial Assembly Bashir Ahmed Bilour said that Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) coming to the Peshawar, mainly from Mohmand, Khyber and Orakzai Agencies are creating serious problems for the law enforcement agencies. He said that the people were renting out their houses to the IDPs without any verification, adding that sabotage activities would continue unless the displaced people were sent back to their hometowns. Mr Bilour said that police had arrested many suspected terrorists but there were a lot more who had spread in various localities of Peshawar and were carrying out sabotage acts, adding that it was also duty of the local people to cooperate with police to arrest such elements.

the leader of anti-Taliban militia, Dilawar Khan, threatened to stop cooperating with authorities after a deadly suicide bombing on his men, a warning that highlights the risks Pakistan is taking by using private armies with questionable loyalties in its struggle against insurgents. Dilawar Khan and other militia leaders close to Peshawar have long demanded more money and weapons from authorities in Pakistan, accusing the Government of encouraging them to rise up against the militants but not giving them the support needed to do so. But authorities, worried about giving them too much power, have been careful not to give them too much.

Sources said the bomb detonated 90 minutes before the usually 150-strong congregation was due to gather at the mosque in Badabher village in the suburbs of Peshawar city. “It was a timed device and the target was the Friday gathering but it exploded prematurely,” Kalam Khan, a senior police officer said, adding that the bomb caused only slight damage to the building. Head of Bazidkhel Amn Lashkar (peace militia) Fahimur Rehman said that the Lashkar-e-Islam (LI) was behind the blast as Amn Lashkar activists had successfully stopped movement of the militants, but non-cooperation of police forced them to abandon their efforts.
