Several Tangkhul women who were taking out a protest demonstration on February 9 in Kasom in Ukhrul District had a narrow escape when a pressure cooker bomb failed to explode while they were passing by, reports The Sentinel. One person happened to see a pressure cooker bomb, which failed to explode, on the roadside. The women were protesting the bomb blast, which happened on February 5 which killed one person and the gunfight between Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) and Isak-Muivah faction of National Socialist Council of Nagaland NSCN-IM on February a place between Nambashi and Nambashi Khunou in Ukhrul. RPF stated that the NSCN-IM is never considered as an enemy but it would counter any threat to Manipuri's unity through tough political and military strategies, reports E-pao on February 10. According to a statement of RPF issued by its ‘publicity secretary’ Roben Khuman the outfit is always ready to have talks with NSCN-IM, if the later wants. He also stated that killing of one cadre and injuring of few other cadres of NSCN-IM at Nambasi was an unfortunate incident. He said that RPF was preparing to carry out an attack on AR, however SFs stayed back at Nambasi School compound and NSCN-IM militants came towards the hiding position of RPF.

Kuki activists have announced an economic blockade for five days with effect from February 18, in protest against the alleged failure of the Manipur State Government to disclose the report of the magisterial inquiry into the encounter on January 28 at Kadangband in Imphal West, reports The Hindu. On January 28, two Kuki National Front (KNF) militants were killed and three were wounded in a firing between AR and the militants. A hand gun was also recovered. However there has been protest as the activists said that it was not an encounter.

Manipur is in flames again for the last two days after the intensification of the public agitation demanding the implementation of the Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) to regulate influx of outsiders into the Northeastern border State, reports The Assam Tribune on August 17. 13 persons including higher secondary students, seven local club leaders launched a fast unto death agitation in Imphal demanding implementation of ILPS, after five other hunger strikers were picked up by the police on August 16. The agitators, mostly youths and womenfolk on August 17 blocked the roads by placing iron posts, boulder, burning tyres, in the afternoon, affecting normal life in greater Imphal area. Manipur has been witnessing series of public agitations spearheaded by the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS), a conglomerate of 40 civil society organisations since the last more than one month, demanding the enforcement of the ILPS.

Tension prevailed on August 18 in Manipur’s border town Moreh in Chandel District which borders Myanmar following a violent standoff between a group of Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) supporters and volunteers of Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) backed by non-Manipuris, injuring seven people, reports Morung Express. Reports said several houses and office of Meitei Council, Moreh Branch had been torched in an arson attack and several shops and other structures were ransacked and destroyed in the clash that took place around 10:30 am. At least three persons have been killed and many others sustained injuries as police and protesters clashed in different areas of Churachandpur District as mobs went on rampage attacking residences of Ministers, Members of Legislative Assembly (MLA) and Member of Parliament (MP), reports The Sangai Express on August 31. The reason for the violence has been the passing of three Bills that was seen to have infringed upon the rights of the tribal people. On August 31, protestors torched the private houses of Lok Sabha (lower house of Indian Parliament) Member of Parliament (MP) Thangso Baite, Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing, Assembly Hill Areas Committee chairman Chaltolien Amo and Congress legislators T.N. Haokip, Manga Vaiphei and Vungjagin Valte, located in and around Churachandpur town. Churachandpur Deputy Commissioner Lunminthang Haokip said that on August 31, two persons died of bullet injuries, one was charred to death as the houses were set on fire and the fourth died in a road accident caused by road blocks. He, however, could not say who fired the shots. Minlan Gangte, information secretary of the Kuki Students Organisation, Churachandpur stated that "The amendment of the bill disturbs the rights of the tribal people. People are angry because our representatives did not speak for us when it was passed in the Assembly," He said the land law has not been extended to the hills till now and if it is extended to the hills it will disturb the tribal people's rights.

A day after protesters burnt the houses of their representatives to protest the passing of three Bills in the State Assembly that are seen as ‘anti-tribal’ and infringement on the traditional tribal land ownership rights, more violence seized Churachandpur District as the death toll reaches 7, reports The Sangai Express. The Telegraph further adds that three protesters died in Police firing on September 1 and four were during the arson incidents on August 31. On September 1, protesters defied the curfew and attacked the police, forcing the latter to fire in the air. An irate mob set Churachandpur police station on fire this afternoon. The police fired in retaliation, resulting in the death of three protesters and injuries to two. The fatalities have been identified as Khai- zamang, Khamthianmuan and Zamminthang Valte.

A grenade was found at the residential gate of the Pradhan on September 26, evening around 7pm. The protest commenced from around 1:30pm at the Singda Bazar Bus parking and was attended by around 100 persons including womenfolk.
