Two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants, including a local top commander from Bandipora District, were killed in separate incidents in Shalimar and Gasu areas of Srinagar, the capital of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on January 3, reports Greater Kashmir. Based on specific input generated by Police regarding presence of terrorist in Shalimar area, a search operation was launched by Srinagar Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). During the search operation, the search party was fired upon indiscriminately by hiding militants, which was effectively retaliated leading to a brief shootout and elimination of LeT local top commander Saleem Parray. As per Police, Parray was active since 2016 and was involved in several civilian killings including of Bashir Ahmad Dar and his brother Ghulam Hassan Dar at Shahgund Hajin in Bandipora on May 5, 2018, Hilal Ahmad Parray at Parray Mohalla Hajin on May 16, 2018, even as "he was also involved in throat slitting of many civilians in Hajin area.

The encounter broke out in the morning shortly after SFs cordoned the area following the inputs about the presence of militants there. The identity of the slain militants was yet to be ascertained. “Both the killed terrorists are locals and linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT/TRF. They were involved in several terror crimes," Kashmir Inspector General of Police (IGP) Vijay Kumar said in a statement.

Three Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants including a local militant killed in an encounter with the Security Forces (SFs) in Chandgam village of Pulwama District in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on January 5, reports Greater Kashmir. "Acting on specific input regarding presence of terrorists in village Chandgam area of Pulwama, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, 55RR and 182Bn CRPF in the said area, " a Police spokesman said. "During the search operation, as the joint search party proceeded towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter, " he added. Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including 02 M-4 Carbine and 01 AK series rifle were recovered from the site of encounter. Among the killed militants, two have been identified as Mir Owais resident of Ashmander area of Pulwama District and a Pakistani national Talha Yasir. Regarding the third killed militant, although the recoveries made from the site of encounter indicate him to be a foreigner however his identification is being ascertained. As per Police, the slain trio was "part of group involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on security forces and civilian atrocities". "Several terror crime cases were registered against both the killed identified terrorists. Terrorist Owais was involved in killing of a civilian namely Azad Ahmad Dar of Kangan Pulwama. The killed Pakistani terrorist Talha was mastermind in preparation of Vehicle-borne IEDs besides, involved in attack on civilian at Wanpora area of Pulwama”, Police said.

Three Jash-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants including two foreigners were killed and an Army officer was injured in an encounter in Zolwa Chadoora area of Budgam District in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in the morning of January 7, reports Daily Excelsior. Based on a specific input generated by Police regarding presence of militants in Zolwa Chadoora area, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Security Forces (SFs) in the evening of January 6. “During the search operation, as the presence of militants was ascertained they fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party, which was retaliated, leading to an encounter. The SF evacuated the civilians trapped around the encounter site. “To avoid any collateral damage due to darkness, the operation was suspended during night hours”, an official said. However, in the wee hours, the operation resumed, resulting in the killing of three militants of JeM. An Army officer received minor splinter injury. One of the killed militants has been identified as Waseem Mir son of Ghulam Qadir Mir, resident of Nowgam Srinagar, who was active since December 2020. The official said that documents recovered revealed that the other two killed militants appeared to be foreigners. As per Police records, Waseem was a categorized militant and part of group involved in several cases including attacks on SFs and civilian atrocities. Several cases were registered against him.

Two Al-Badr militants were killed in an encounter at Hasanpora village in Kulgam District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on January 10, reports Daily Excelsior. A gunfight broke out between militants and Security Forces (SFs) in Hasanpora in the afternoon of January 9. In the ensuing encounter, two Al-Badr militants were killed and their bodies retrieved from the site. They have been identified as Imad Muzaffar Wani, resident of Arigam of Pulwama and Abdur Rashid Tokher, resident of Hasanpora. Police said that they were part of groups involved in several militancy cases including attacks on SFs and civilians. Besides, Imad Wani was involved in attack on Police personnel Mushtaq Ahmad Wagay of Pulwama on December 19, 2021, in which the said Police personnel got seriously injured. A Policeman and a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) militant were killed while three Army soldiers and two civilians were injured in a gunfight in the Pariwan area of Kulgam District in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in the night of January 12, reports Greater Kashmir. The encounter broke out shortly after Security Forces cordoned off the area following inputs about the presence of militants there. An encounter broke out between militants and Security Forces (SFs) at Kilbal village in Shopian District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on January 22 (today), reports Daily Excelsior. Sources said, two terrorists are believed to be trapped in the area. A joint team of J&K Police, 34 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on specific information about the presence of militants in the area, and as the joint team of SFs approached the suspected spot, militants fired upon them which was retaliated triggering a gunfight. Based on a specific input of Police about the presence of militants in village Amshipora, Shopian, a joint operation was launched in the intervening night of February 24 and 25, and after a cluster of houses were taken into cordon, following the drill civilians were evacuated to safety. Thereafter, house to house searches were started in the wee hours to locate the hiding militants. During the searches, the militants came out and resorted to indiscriminate firing, in which one civilian namely Shakeel Ahmed Khan son of Abdul Rahim Khan resident of Amshipora got seriously injured and later succumbed to the injuries. However, the fire by the militants was retaliated effectively in which both militants were killed, who have been identified as Muzamil Ahmad Mir, resident of Chatripora, Shopian, and Shariq Ayoob, resident of Bonpora, Amshipora, Shopian. They were involved in the recent attack on the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Maisuma area of Srinagar. Speaking to reporters, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar described the killings as a major success for the SFs in Srinagar. He said that Police while acting on a lead sealed the suspected house in Bishembar Nagar area of Srinagar early this morning. “After closing in on the house where two militants were hiding, they lobbed a grenade and fired at the security forces in which two policemen and a CRPF personnel were injured,” the IGP said. He said that in the ensuing encounter, two hardcore LeT militants were killed. Both the killed militants were Pakistani and identified as Mohammad Bhai alias Abu Qasim, alias Mir Shoaib alias Mudassir and Abu Arsalan alias Khalid alias Aadil. As per police records, both of them were ‘A’ categorized and linked with LeT. Mohammad Bhai was active since 2019 while as Abu Arsalan was active since year 2021 in Central Kashmir. Four terrorists, including a top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) ‘commander’, were neutralised so far in the ongoing encounter that broke out in Malwah area of Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on April 21, reports Daily Excelsior. Earlier on April 21 morning it was reported that LeT ‘Commander’ Yousuf Kantroo was killed while others militants were under trap. Yousuf Kantroo was on the list of top 10 most wanted terrorists. Acting on a specific input, a special team of Budgam Police along with the Army launched a joint cordon and search operation in Malwah area. During the search operation as the joint search party reached the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately upon them in which four soldiers including one officer received minor injuries. The fire was effectively retaliated leading to an encounter. Later on, Baramulla Police headed by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla District also joined in the operation. One Policeman from the Baramulla District also got injured in the encounter. According to J&K Police, terrorist Yousuf Kantroo earlier joined as an over ground worker of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) outfit and was arrested in the year 2005. Later on, he was released in the year 2008 but he again joined terrorist rank in the year 2017 and started killing innocent civilians, Policemen and political workers. Later on he switched from HM to LeT. However, the identification of the other killed terrorist is yet to be ascertain.

Inspector General of Police, Kashmir zone, Vijay Kumar said as per the documents and other incriminating materials recovered from the encounter site, one of the killed terrorists has been identified as Abdullah Goujri, a resident of Faisalabad in Pakistan. “This was the same group of terrorists which had escaped from Sopore encounter. We have been tracking their movement,” IGP Vijay Kumar added. The other slain terrorist was identified as Adil Hussain Mir alias Sufian, a resident of Anantnag District. “As per police records, he crossed over to Pakistan in 2018 on visit visa from Wagah,” IGP Vijay Kumar added further.

Significantly, he had earlier also infiltrated into Rajouri from the same sector in April 2016 and was repatriated after completion of sentence. Troops observed movement along the LoC at Sher Makri in Nowshera sector this morning and became alert. They opened firing after intruder refused to surrender. He was hit by 3-4 shots in his legs and was captured in injured condition. During investigations, identity of injured intruder was established as Tabarak Hussain (26), son of Mistri Malik, a resident of village Sabzkot in Kotli District of Pakistan occupied Jammu Kashmir (PoJK). Sources recalled that on April 25, 2016, Tabarak Hussain and his 15-year-old brother Haroon Ali were captured by Jhangar battalion in Nowshera sector when they were trying to infiltrate into the Indian Territory in a group of three. The third infiltrator had managed to escape back. Interrogation of Tabarak and Haroon had revealed that Tabarak was cultivated by Pakistan army and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and had worked for their Intelligence Unit for two years during which he was trained to acquire enemy information and establishing cover story in case he is apprehended. He had also undergone six weeks training as a guide at Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) training camp at LoC at Bhimber in PoJK. Tabarak and Haroon along with their associates were launched from Kaldio, Sabzkot in PoJK. They were carrying Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) with them for planting on forward posts of the Indian Army. However, after their arrest, both underwent 26 months sentence. After completion of jail term, they were repatriated to Pakistan via Attari-Wagah border in Amritsar. Tabarak’s younger brother Mohammad Sayeed was also apprehended by the Indian Army in Sher Makri area of Nowshera sector on December 16, 2019 where Tabarak was nabbed today in injured condition.

Three militants were killed as Army on November 3 foiled an infiltration bid and gunned down three militants in an encounter along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch District, reports Daily Excelsior. While the body of one of the militants was recovered by soldiers, bodies of the other two, lying across the LoC, were taken back by villagers of Pakistan-occupied Jammu Kashmir (PoJK). Two AK-47 rifles, a pistol and war-like stores were recovered from the encounter site. The operation continued and a search of the area was underway, at the time pf reporting. The militant outfits like Lashkar-e-Toiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and The Resistance Front have been making attempts to revive militancy in the parts of Jammu region especially the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch and erstwhile Doda District.

A Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) hybrid terrorist, accompanying a police party for identifying a hideout, was killed during an encounter between Security Forces (SFs) and terrorist in Cheki Dudoo area of Bijbehara in Anantnag District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on November 20 (today), reports Daily Excelsior. SFs launched a cordon and search operation in Cheki Dudoo area early morning following specific input about the presence of terrorists there, the Police said. When search party reached towards the suspected hideout, terrorists opened fire which hit one terrorist, Sajjad Tantray of Kulgam District, who was with search party for identification of hideout. He later succumbed to his injuries at hospital. Police said Tantray was involved in the killing of a non-local labourer at Rakhmomen of Bijbehara on November 13.
