On January 6, a 25-year-old school teacher, identified as Ramlal Nureti, was arrested from Karekatta village under Madanwada Police Station limits in Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki District of Chhattisgarh for allegedly being a Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) supporter, reports Devdiscourse. Angered by the arrest, a group of villagers, including schoolchildren, have launched a protest in front of Sitagaon Police Station, demanding his release. Ramlal was allegedly involved in putting up Maoist banners and posters in the area in September last year, the Police said. On September 15, 2023, the police recovered posters and banners from the Madanwada area, where Maoists appealed to observe the 19th anniversary of the outlawed movement, the Police added.

Five cadres of the Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC), a splinter group of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), were arrested from the Tandwa Police Station area in Chatra District of Jharkhand on January 7, reports latestly.com. Superintendent of Police (SP) Rakesh Ranjan said a 'sub-zonal commander' identified as Adesh Kumar Ganjhu alias Prabhakar Ji, wanted in several cases of arson and extortion in the Tandwa coalfield area, was among the five arrestees. The other four were identified as Upendra Kumar Ganjhu alias Bhola, Laldev Kumar Ganjhu, Pintu Kumar Ganjhu and Rajesh Kumar Ganjhu. Arms and ammunition were also seized from them. Among these were a rifle, two pistols, 14 live cartridges, a knife, and pamphlets of the banned organisation, the SP said.

Security Forces (SFs) arrested three Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, identified as Madakam Handa (35), Medium Podia (38) and Korsa Dhurva (21), allegedly involved in the attack on a team of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), in which one officer was killed and another soldier was injured, from Pandumeta hills under Jagargunda Police Station area in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh on January 7, reports ibc24.in. All three were active as members of Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Mazdoor Sangathan (DAKMS) in Jagargunda. Officials said, “The arrested Naxalites [Left Wing Extremists, LWEs] were involved in the attack on a team of the 165th battalion of the CRPF on December 17. CRPF Sub Inspector Sudhakar Reddy was killed in the attack, and a constable was injured by the bullet.”

An encounter took place between Security Forces (SFs) and cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) near the hill of Takameta village in Narayanpur District of Chhattisgarh on January 14, reports The Print. After the exchange of fire, the SFs arrested four Maoists identified as Aaitu Ram Nuruti (26), Manoj Hichami (22), Suresh Nuruti (25), and Budhu Ram Padda (25) during the operation, which was part of Operation Surya-Shakti undertaken by the SFs. 'Operation Surya-Shakti' was conducted between January 12 and 16 in villages including Urchapal, Paraidhi, Pangur, Tekameta, Musparse, Kukur and others, a Bastar Police statement said.

The Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police arrested a senior functionary of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), who was declared "most wanted" by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in 2022, from the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) in Guwahati (Kamrup Metropolitan), the capital of Assam, on January 16, reports The Times of India. The 54-year-old leader, Amiruddin Ahmed alias Amiruddin Laskar alias Sunil alias Rana Choudhury alias Rana Das alias Suryo, was declared "most wanted" in May 2022 as he was absconding after CPI-Maoist ‘central committee (CC) member’ and ‘politburo’ of the CPI-Maoist, Arun Kumar Bhattacharjee, was arrested in March that year in Barak Valley in Cachar District. Ahmed is a resident of Dhubri District, Assam. According to the Police, the alleged senior Maoist leader joined the organisation in 2009 and was allegedly officiating as a mass organiser in the Cachar area in Assam’s Barak Valley as well as the observer for Dibrugarh District of Assam. The Police stated that the accused was camping in various Adivasi-inhabited areas of the Barak Valley and was working for the organisation.

Yellandu Police arrested seven Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) sympathisers, identified as Jedipeti Ramesh of Yellandu, Sunnam Kana, Sunnam Ganga, and Madakam Laccha of Malkangiri District, Odisha, B Narasimha of Karepally, Muhammad Yakub Pasha alias Bambula Pasha of Mahabubabad town, and Alakunta Venkanna Mudigonda in Khammam District, and seized a huge cache of explosive material from them in Bhadradri Kothagudem District of Telangana on January 19, reports Telangana Today. Circle Inspector (CI), P Karunakar, informed that the accused were supplying explosive material to Naxalites [Left Wing Extremists, LWEs]. Police recovered 400 gelatin sticks, 1000 detonators, three cordex wire bundles, and a five-metre safety fuse. A case was registered against them at Yellandu Police Station.

On January 25, a woman cadre of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) was injured in an encounter with the Security Forces (SFs) in a forest near Sikaser Dam under Mainpur Police Station limits in Gariabandh District of Chhattisgarh, reports latestly.com. The encounter took place when a District Force (DF) team was on an anti-Naxal [Left Wing Extremism, LWE] operation after receiving inputs about the movement of ultras, Gariabandh Superintendent of Police (SP) Amit Tukaram Kamble said, adding that on sensing the presence of Police at the site, the Naxalites opened fire and SFs retaliated. "The Naxalites fled into the core forest later. After the gunfight, a woman Naxalite was found injured at the site. She has been shifted to Gariabandh for treatment," he said. She is yet to be identified, but a preliminary probe suggests she is from Silger village in Sukma District and part of "company number 10" of the outlawed movement, the SP informed.

A top Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre, identified as Yogendra Koda of Munger Range in Bihar, was arrested by Bihar’s Jamalpur Special Task Force (STF) from Bengaluru City in Karnataka, reports prabhatkhabar.com on February 1. The Police of Munger, Jamui, and Lakhisarai districts were making continuous efforts to arrest him. 13 cases are registered against the arrested Maoist in Munger, Jamui, and Lakhisarai districts. In which there are more than half a dozen murder cases. Following the attack, an encounter took place between the Maoists and the Security Forces (SFs). In a search operation launched by the SFs, six Improvised Explosive Device (IED) bombs weighing five kilogrammes each were recovered. Bastar Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sunderraj P said, "New police camps are being set up in the core areas, resulting in Naxalites [Left Wing Extremists, LWEs] being in panic." Acting on a tip-off about Maoists returning in a tractor after celebrating Bhumkal Diwas in Peediya and Hallur, an operation was launched. After seeing Police, people riding a tractor near Matwada High School in the Jangla Police Station area jumped off the vehicle and tried to run away. However, the Police managed to arrest eight suspected Maoists, including three women. The arrested Maoists are said to be members of the Bhairamgarh Area Committee. Warrants in at least 108 Maoist-related cases, including murder, attempts to murder, and abductions, were pending against him at different Police Stations in Bijapur District, the official said. The Government had announced reward of INR 200, 000 each on the arrest of Kajal and Geeta, a reward of INR 150,000 on the arrest of Pandu Narote. Both, Kajal and Geeta, were directly involved in planning ambush and an exchange of fire between the Police and Maoists in which an officer and one commando of C60 were killed. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested an armed cadre of the People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI), a splinter group of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), following raids at two locations each in Jharkhand and Assam on April 10, reports The Print. The crackdown led to the arrest of one Binod Munda alias Sukkhwa from the Khunti District of Jharkhand, according to the statement issued by the NIA. The accused is wanted in four PLFI cases in Jharkhand and has been arrested in a case relating to revival attempts by the PLFI. As part of the revival activities, PLFI members and cadres were involved in generating funds through extortion from various coal traders, transporters, railway contractors, and businessmen in Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Odisha, as per the NIA investigations. The NIA teams also seized a host of incriminating material, including PLFI-related documents, along with two walkie-talkies, five mobile phones, SIM cards and INR 11,000 cash during the searches.

Four weapons have also been recovered from Bhuiyan. The Maoists -- six women and eight men -- were part of the Maoist group's Military Company No 2 and the Gangaloor Area Committee, Bijapur Superintendent of Police (SP) Jitendra Kumar Yadav said. Three Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, allegedly involved in the murder of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) functionary in March this year, were arrested from Chintanpalli village under Toynar Police Station limits in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on May 16, reports The Week. Police identified those arrested as Munna Mudma (32), a ‘militia’ (people’s army of the Maoists) ‘commander’, Raju Mudma (31), a member of the Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Mazdoor Sangthan (DAKMS -- a front of Maoists) and Lakhmu Mudma (39), a ‘militia’ member. All three hail from Chintanpalli. "The trio was allegedly involved in the murder of Tirupati Katla, a member of Janpad Panchayat in Bijapur, in Toynar village on March 1," an official said. Katla, a functionary of the ruling BJP, was attacked by Maoists with sharp-edged weapons when he had gone to attend a wedding in Toynar. The three arrested Maoists were also allegedly involved in the murder of a Sarpanch (head of the Panchayat, village level local self-Government institution) of Mormed village in Bijapur district in 2022, the official said.
