Sindh Rangers arrested 17 suspects, including those accused of extorting money and committing robberies, during targeted operations in different parts of Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, on April 14, reports The News.A spokesperson for the paramilitary force said the Rangers’ personnel conducted a targeted raid in the Malir area where they arrested two suspects, later identified as Khadim Hussain, alias Magsi, and Abdul Hameed. The arrested men were allegedly involved in a number of extortion cases. The Rangers also carried out raids in the Korangi, Sacchal. Frere, Kalri, Nabi Bux, Mithadar, Kharadar, Garden, Baghdadi and Mehmoodabad areas where they apprehended 14 accused who were identified as Muhammad Tauqeer Saeed, Muhammad Umair, Syed Amaan, Faizan, Siraaj, Sanaullah, Muhammad Hussain, Muhammad Jibran, Muhammad Sohail, Rashid, Sajid, Daniyal, Ghulam Sarwar and Muhammad Irfan. According to the Rangers, the arrested suspects were involved in various criminal offences, including illegal sale and purchase of weapons, dacoities, and street crime. A suspect, Raja Muzammil, was arrested by the Rangers when they carried out a raid in the Mehmoodabad area. The suspect was allegedly involved in drug peddling in the area.The rangers also claimed to have recovered arms, looted items and narcotics from the possession of the arrested suspects who were later handed over to the Police for the initiation of legal proceedings.

Police and Security Forces (SFs) personnel killed five Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants holed up in a house in E-sector of Phase-VII in Hayatabad area of Peshawar, the provincial capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on April 16 after a fierce gun battle lasting over 17 hours, reports Dawn. One Police officer also killed during the gun battle. The TTP in an email message issued claimed that six of its members were involved in the gunfight with law enforcement personnel. The gun battle started at 7.30pm on April 15-evening as Police tried to enter the house in E-sector during an intelligence-based operation (IBO). Assistant Sub-Inspector Qamar Alam lost his life while trying to enter the house. A terrorist was also killed during an initial exchange of fire that triggered a fierce gunfight which continued till the killing of the four remaining terrorists around April 16-noon. Two SFs personnel and two civilians, including a woman, were injured during the gunfight. The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDUS) during the clearance found an explosives-rigged bike on the ground floor, which was connected with explosive materials planted in the basement of the house. The BDU destroyed the bike with an explosive charge, which brought down the two-storey house. “The house and bike were rigged with about 60kg explosives, which had been destroyed with a 250-gram explosive charge,” BDU chief Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Shafqat Malik said.

Over a dozen live shells of an anti-aircraft gun were found from a plot located about half a kilometer from the Bani Gala residence of Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan in Islamabad on April 5, reports Dawn. Police said a senior officer of a foreign mission spotted the ammunition lying in the plot adjacent to the PM’s house and informed the police. A patrolling team reached the spot and cordoned off the area. Teams from different police wings, including Counter-Terrorism Force, Crime Investigation Agency and Bomb Disposal Squad later seized 18 bullets of the anti-craft gun.

After the firing stopped, three terrorists were found dead. Other three terrorists escaped taking benefit of darkness. A bomb disposal squad (BDS) had earlier in the day expertly defused explosives affixed to railway tracks. According to BDS official Ghulam Abbas, "the bomb weighed 5kg and was attached to the railway tracks along with a remote-controlled device." The target appeared to be the Karachi-bound Khushal Khan Khattak Express, which had left from Peshawar and was due to pass by in a few hours. It was temporarily halted at the Dera Ghazi Khan station after Police sealed off the area and began a search operation. All the arrested militants belong to the Baggi Commander Group of BRA. According to Police officials, a Kalashnikov, four hand grenades along with a suicide jacked and 15 kilogrammes of explosive material was recovered from the possession of the militants, adds Geo TV. Shukrullah was the facilitator and mastermind of several suicide attacks. He also remained associated with Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP). He was involved in suicide attacks on Chilgari and Fatehpur shrines in Jhal Magsi District (October 5, 2017) along with the abduction of eight labourers from the Kech District on July 5. Earlier on July 5, eight labourers have gone missing after they resisted extortion by unidentified militants in Kech District, reports Pakistan Today. The Policeman, Jahangir, was killed when two armed assailants on a motorcycle shot him in Hijrat Colony within the limits of the Civil Lines police station. He was shot while he was on an intelligence mission before a combing operation in the area. While one of the attackers who killed the Policeman, Rehan Gul, was already arrested within two weeks of the incident; however, a key suspect, Noor Wali, went underground. Wali continued to move from one place to another as he first escaped to Buner, then Karak and then Kohat, and finally returned to Karachi after the passage of almost two months after the incident. As the Wali returned to Karachi, the Civil Lines Police arrested him on a tip-off and seized arms from his possession.

CTD officials said that they arrested facilitators of a banned militant outfit for their alleged involvement in transporting the suicide vests from Afghanistan to Karachi. Two suicide jackets that were confiscated from their possession. According to CTD in-charge Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ali Raza, each of the suicide jackets carried around four-and-a-half kilograms of explosives and they were hidden in two room refrigerators. The jackets were dispatched to Karachi from Afghanistan by the Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (JuA) to be used in major suicide bombings in the city, the DSP added.

Security Forces (SFs) foiled a terror attack bid on October 18, killing one would-be suicide bomber during an exchange of fire, while another bomber blew himself up during a search operation in the Killi Kawar area near the University of Loralai on the outskirts of Loralai town (Loralai District) of Balochistan, reports Dawn. Two soldiers of the Frontier Corps — Abdul Latif and Mohammad Sharif — were also injured in the incident. Official sources said that the FC personnel posted at a check-post in the Killi Kawar area signalled two men riding a motorcycle to stop. But instead of stopping, they opened fire on the SFs. The suspects tried to escape and took shelter near a seasonal river. The SFs cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. During the ensuing encounter, one would-be suicide bomber was killed while another detonated the explosives attached to his jacket. Arms and ammunition, including grenades, AK-47 assault rifles and rounds, were recovered from the possession of the slain militants.

The Karachi East Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ghulam Azfar Mahesar said at a press conference that Abdul Salam confessed to have killed 111 people during interrogation.
