Tirap/ Arunachal Pradesh

Two NSCN-IM cadres and two civilians were killed in the crossfire between Assam Rifles and militants at Holam village in Khonsa of Tirap District. Two AK-47 rifles, a sniper rifle and an M-16 rifle were recovered from the incident site. An Assam Rifles official based at Khonsa said another militant, who was injured in the encounter, escaped but a search was on to track him down. An operation was launched early in the morning following specific information about the presence of a group of militants in the village.

Unidentified armed persons suspected to be cadres of NSCN-IM robbed a passenger bus carrying a consignment of betel leaves at Maram Centre in Senapati District. The passenger bus was travelling from Guwahati to Imphal. After stopping the bus, the armed persons pulled down betel leaves put inside five plastic buckets. It is suspected that the armed cadres confiscated the betel leaves in connection with monetary demand.

Sumi Baghi Hoho (Sumi general public meeting) on January 7 at the Town Hall Zunheboto, under the aegis of the Sumi Hoho passed four resolutions among which was to delink all ties with NSCN-IM with immediate effect and therefore, all forms of taxations from Sumis to the NSCN-IM shall cease to exist.

One of Sumi Volunteers, Nipulo Chishi (19), injured during the December 28-30, 2013 confrontation between a group of people and cadres of NSCN-IM at Mukalimi village in Zunheboto District (Nagaland) died in Shillong (Meghalaya). He was shifted to Shillong recently after his condition deteriorated because of an injury in his abdomen.

In an operation was launched by SFs leading to the arrest of 'sergeant' John Yangemei alias Karin of NSCN-IM in Tamenglong District. One .22 pistol (US made) with five cartridges and two mobile phones were recovered from the individual, who reportedly came to Nonei in the District to collect extortion money.

'Chairman' of NSCN-IM , Isak Chishi Swu, has ordered that the group's 'ministries and departments' should have "regular concurrence" with the collective leadership in matters of "tax collection and loan.". In a 'standing azha (order)', he said the order has been passed in consultation with the collective leadership and in view of "national necessity". The order is mandatory and comes into immediate effect, said the azha.

NSCN-IM 'President' Isak Chishi Swu in his address during the 34th 'Naga Republic Day' celebration at Camp Hebron in Dimapur District asserted that "NSCN has never ever deserted the cause" of the Nagas. He said thousands cadres were fully prepared to defend the cause of the Nagas in days to come.

CFMG has issued security instructions to all NSCN factions in view of the ensuing Lok Sabha (Lower House of Indian Parliament) election. In a communiquéaddressed to all the NSCN factions, CFMG chairman Lieutenant General (retd.) N.K. Singh said with the announcement of 16th Lok Sabha elections to be conducted from April 7 to May 12 across the country and on April 9 in Nagaland, all District administrations have been issued instructions that no one other than Security Forces would carry any fire arms so as to ensure peaceful polls. Therefore, all factions of NSCN have been asked to conform to the instructions with the essential objective of ensuring peaceful polls, said Singh.

Troops of 31 Assam Rifles during a routine patrol, reportedly arrested one NSCN-IM cadre from 18 Mile Junction, Tuli in Mokokchung District. The cadre, identified as B Phuhlom Phom was arrested along with one pistol, four rounds of live ammunition and "some extortion notes".

MPP President Sovakiran N has demanded the closure of the camps of the NSCN-IM located in some hill Districts of the State. Talking to reporters, he said that it was a matter of concern that the NSCN-IM had celebrated its raising day in a camp in Chandel District bordering Myanmar on March 21.

A two-day reconciliation meeting of three Naga militant groups including NSCN-IM, NSCN-KK and NNC/FGN in Dimapur under the banner of FNR concluded with the signing of "Lenten Agreement". The agreement, signed by six top leaders of the three groups, stated that, as agreed in the Naga Concordant signed on August 26, 2011, they have agreed "in principle to form the NNG".NSCN-IM was led by 'chairman' Isak Chisi Swu and 'general secretary' Thuingaleng Muivah, the NSCN-KK was led by 'president' Khole Konyak and 'general secretary' Kitovi Zhimomi while the NNC/FGN was led by 'president' 'Brig' (Rtd) S. Singnya and 'vice president' Zhopra Vero.

Security Forces launched an operation at a house in Golaghat road (Ghora Patti) in Dimapur District and arrested "captain" Hokheto G Zhimomi of NSCN-IM and recovered illegal arms and ammunition. Naga civil society organisations expressed their appreciation on the 'Lenten Agreement' of the three major Naga underground groups. The Naga Hoho, the NMA, the Business Association of Nagas (BAN), the Naga Council, the Nagaland Contractors and Suppliers Union and various other frontal bodies have lauded the effort of the FNR and the willing spirit of the Naga underground bodies to come under one roof. On March 28 NSCN-IM, NNC/FGN and NSCN-KK had signed the 'Lenten Agreement' (the season of Good Friday and Easter) in Dimapur with the FNR facilitating the event. A big feature of the Lenten Agreement has been to form 'Naga National Government (NNG)'. In the event of the formation of NNG there all the Naga underground organizations will be merged into a single outfit.

ACAUT, Nagaland has alleged that a genuine Naga businessman was being victimized by non-local operated syndicate backed by the NSCN-IM. ACAUT said it could no longer "tolerate" the victimization. In a press release, ACAUT media cell said its fact-finding committee found out that South India Transport Agency operated by N. Mughavi Zhimomi was not being allowed to run his business by a "transport cartel backed by NSCN-I-M" despite possessing all legal documents.

A source in the NIA said they are hoping to extract some vital information from Willy on the supply of Chinese weapons not only to the NSCN-IM but also to other Northeast insurgent groups.

NSCN-IM set ablaze two bulldozers at a place between Louphong and Chadong villages under Litan Police Station in Ukhrul District. Three cadres of NSCN-IM with pistols came to the place and torched the bulldozers. One of the bulldozers belonged to the chief of Louphong village. There was an instance of the NSCN-IM serving a demand of INR 1 million to to the chief.

NSCN-IM 'chairman' Isak Chisi Swu and 'general secretary' Thuingaleng Muivah have left for Delhi to participate in the ongoing peace talks. Swu and Muivah were accompanied by senior NSCN-IM leaders Rev Puni and Tongmeth. Though formal talks are likely to be held only after the next Government is formed, the IM leaders had left for Delhi this early as they have to meet with 'important people'. A source from NSCN-IM stated that "So much ground works are to be attended by our leaders in Delhi". NSCN-IM leaders have been in Nagaland since March 9.

A jeep belonging to a company, VIOM was hijacked near St Paul English School, Komlathabi in Chandel District, along with the driver, Laishram Bobo and his assistant by NSCN-IM militants. Driver and his assistant were later set free on the evening with instruction to representatives of the Company.

Troops of the AR raided a "detention centre" allegedly run by the NSCN-IM at Jalukie town in Peren District and rescued five civilians who were illegally detained there. During the raid, 11 suspected NSCN-IM cadres, who were running the detention centre, were taken into custody.
