Subject: Schedule for general election to the Legislative Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir.

In the schedule for general election to the Legislative Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir announced by the Commission on 2^nd August, 2002, it was indicated that the Governor’s notification for the second phase covering the Districts of Srinagar, Badgam and Jammu would be issued on 31.8.2002 and the poll in these Districts was scheduled to be taken on 24.9.2002. In slight modification of the above schedule for the second phase, the Governor’s notification will now issue on 29.8.2002 (instead of 31.8.2002); but the date of poll shall remain unchanged as 24.9.2002. The revised schedule for the second phase will now be as follows: -

1.	Notification	29.08.2002 (Thursday)
2.	Last date for filing nominations	05.09.2002 (Thursday)
3.	Scrutiny of nominations	06.09.2002 (Friday)
4.	Withdrawal of candidatures	09.09.2002 (Monday)
5.	Date of Poll	24.09.2002 (Tuesday)
6.	Completion of Election	12.10.2002 (Saturday)

There will be no change in the schedule for the remaining three phases. Accordingly, the schedule for all the four phases given in para 14 of the Commission’s Press Note dated 2^nd August, 2002 shall be substituted by the following schedule: -
