Jharkhand Police, on March 13, arrested 10 Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres in the Chaibasa area in West Singhbhum District of Jharkhand, for their involvement in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in Toklo area of the State on March 4, wherein three troopers of State Police lost their lives, reports Telangana Today. Police in a statement said, “A total of 10 Naxals held for their involvement in IED blast on March 4, under Toklo police station area which took lives of three jawans of Jharkhand police (jaguar unit). All are active members of the Naxal outfit and experts in IED and claymore blast. They have disclosed they did recce the movement of security forces in the area.” Earlier, SATP had reported that three Security Force (SF) personnel were killed and two others injured when an IED, planted by CPI-Maoist cadres, exploded during a joint anti-Maoist operation by Police and Central Reserve Police Force personnel (CRPF), in Hoyahatu village under Toklo Police Station limits in West Singhbhum District on March 4, 2021. According to a press release issued by the District Police, the Police arrested one Ramrai Hansda who disclosed that CPI-Maoist ‘Central Committee Member’ Anil alias Partiam Manjhi, at the instance of ‘zonal commander’ Maharaj Pramanik, carried out the attack. “They had placed the claymore mines on the route of the police going towards Laanji Pahar and waited for them to arrive on March 4. One group waited on a tree top and another… triggered the blast when they saw security personnel and fled through the forest,” stated the release. Police said that two accused, Nelson Kandir and Mahadev Singh Munda, had various cases against them, including under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), adds The Indian Express. The rest of the arrestees are yet to be identified.
