The Maldives’ former Vice-President Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed returned to Maldives on October 6 after living in the United Kingdom (UK) under exile for more than three years, reports Maldives Independent. Upon his return, he was greeted by Jumhooree Party (JP) leader Gasim Ibrahim and other party members at the airport. After President Abdulla Yameen’s defeat in the September 23 Presidential election, many “high-profile” figures have also been released from prison, including the former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and three other politicians.
