Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Member of Parliament (MP) Sivagnanam Shritharan on May 7 demanded the Government to grant permission for the Tamils to commemorate those who perished in the Mullivaikkal genocide, reports Tamil Guardian. Shritharan said, “The government must grant permission to commemorate May 18, the Mullivaikal massacre day, a day in which Tamil people remember by shedding tears those who lived amongst us and died.” May 18, also known as 'Tamil Genocide Day' will mark 12 years since tens of thousands of Tamils were killed in a military offensive by the Sri Lankan state during the final months of the armed conflict with Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
