A bomb blast in a school bus on January 4, injured at least five children in Turbat of Balochistan, reports Daily Times. The bus was taking more than 30 children of Frontier Corps (FC) personnel to a school in Turbat. A remote-controlled bomb exploded when the bus neared Ata Shad College, about 550 kilometres west of Quetta, an FC spokesman said. A child, Haroon Siddiq lost his hand in the attack and was stated to be critical. Other injured children were identified as Kami, John, Zeshan and Qamar. Security in charge, Muhammad Hameed also suffered minor injuries.

Sources said the assailants on motorcycles opened indiscriminate fire on labourers working on the premises of an under-construction cadet college on the outskirts of Panjgur. The victims were identified as Naseer Kamalan, a seasoned poet and political activist, who was the local president of the Baloch National Movement (BMN) in Pasni, Ahmed Dad, an activist of the Baloch Republican Party (BRP) and Nisar Ahmed Mengal. Ahmed’s body was found hanging from a tree with ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ written on it. Naseer Kamalan was abducted from Karwat area near Gwadar and Pasni on November 5 from a passenger van while Ahmed Dad was abducted on October 12 near the Zero Point at Uthal in Lasbela District from a Gwadar-Karachi bound passenger coach, family members told reporters. The family members of the deceased accused the security agencies of killing them during illegal detention.

In the first incident, armed militants opened fire on three trailers going to Chaman town in Qilla Abdullah District from Karachi (Sindh) near Wadh area of Khuzdar District and set two of them afire. The third trailer skidded off the road and plunged into a ditch after the driver lost its control. The assailants escaped after the attack. In the second incident, in Mastung District, three oil tankers carrying fuel for NATO forces were attacked with grenades and burnt by armed militants in Ganji Dori area of Mastung District. As a result of the grenade-and-gun attack the three tankers caught fire. The assailants, eight in number, escaped from the incident site. However, no casualties were reported in these incidents.
