STF agents interrogating arrested ISI agent Mohammad Aijaz have found crucial evidence which points towards the fact that language trainers also occupy an important position in the Pakistan spy establishment. According to Aijaz, a team of Hindi language trainers, presumably recruited from among Indians, have been drilling ISI recruits on the language and dialect of the region where they would be required to operate. Aijaz was trained to develop fluency in Hindi and get out of his native Punjabi accent (he is from Pakistan's Punjab region) and thereafter taught to speak Hindi in the dialect of western Uttar Pradesh. A senior STF official said Aijaz told them that at the time of his recruitment, his ISI handlers were a bit worried about the fact that his Punjabi accent might raise doubts about his credentials if he is sent to western Uttar Pradesh without improving his verbal skills. Their worries stemmed from the fact that the native of Taramandi locality in Islamabad District of Pakistan was only well-versed in the local dialect, a combination of Urdu and Punjabi. |

Police have put its social media monitoring labs on alert and sensitised its intelligence network particularly in communally sensitive districts in the wake of the IS propaganda. Taking note of the video UHM Rajnath Singh had said the Centre was taking all steps to tackle the issue. The cause of concern for the UP Police stems from recent arrest of at least two UP youths who were in touch with the IS through its social media network. While Shakir was arrested by Delhi Police on May 4 from Deoband in Saharanapur for his alleged links with banned terror outfit JeM, Rizwan was picked up by the Mumbai Police from Kushinagar District in Uttar Pradesh on January 23. "Their arrests have proved that ISIS and its subsidiaries are trying desperately for a foothold on India in general and UP in particular. This is a cause of serious concern, particularly when one finds young blood turning to world's top terror outfits," said a senior IPS officer. "The intelligence agencies are verifying if the video and its content are authentic but we have put our intelligence on alert," said DGP UP Javeed Ahmed. "We have put our social media labs on alert as well and will leave nothing to chance," he said. "Youth in our state see through the nefarious designs of such terror outfits and not fall for such false propaganda in the name of religion," he said. |

The NIA has registered a FIR in the latest Islamic State (ISIS) inspired cases in the Madhya Pradesh and Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) terror operations. The principal focus of the investigators would now be to digitally track the mastermind behind the modules, who is believed to be abroad. The move is to ensure that further radicalisation of Indian youth is stopped. After forces managed to identify a Lucknow terror module linked to ISIS, top intelligence sources had confirmed that search activities were initiated to find 20 odd youths who might have joined the Islamic radical group earlier and are now back in the country. As per information, all the 20 members - mostly based out of Kerala - were in Syria recently and might have returned to India to act on the radical groups agenda. While there have been no ISIS related terror activities in India, the Lucknow terror module raised a lot of security concerns for the country. The Centre has pinpointed five states where ISIS activists could surface, including Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Intelligence operations have already commenced in these states for monitoring any kind of terror activity. |

One of the two Islamic State (IS) recruiters behind the online identity Yusuf-al-Hindi, could possibly have been Mohammad Sajid alias Bada Sajid, who hailed from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh and is believed by Indian agencies to have been killed in 2015 while fighting in Syria. This is what IS sympathiser Amzad Khan, who was deported to India from Saudi Arabia in April, has indicated to interrogators, while identifying a photograph of Yusuf-al-Hindi, sources said. Sajid was a member of IM before fleeing to Pakistan after a security crackdown in 2008, from where he and Karnataka-born Shafi Armar migrated to Afghanistan and Syria. Armar was recently designated as a 'global terrorist' by the US. Investigators believe that Sajid and Armar had radicalised Indians online using the same identity - Yusuf-al-Hindi. "It is possible that after Sajid's death, Armar has been handling the account," said sources. According to sources, Khan, a 37-year-old from Rajasthan, told interrogators: "In the beginning, Yusuf had set a photo taken from his back as his profile picture (on his Telegram account). By the end of December 2015, he changed it to one taken from the front." Investigators believe this image was one of the same set of photographs taken from two angles.
