GHSMC held a meeting recently and resolved to
organize a public rally at Selsela in April, 2014 to intensify
the demand for Garoland Statehood in a democratic way. The demand
for Statehood is in line of Linguistic Act 1956 and State re-organisation
Act 1956, the General Secretary of GHSMC Augustine Marak said.
"On behalf of the people of Garoland we appeal our beloved brothers
of GNLA, ANVC-B, UALA, LAEF, ASAK, ATF, Matchadu Matchabet,
ANLCA, ANCA and other splinter groups to turn to the main stream",
Marak said.

Nongstoin Police conducted a vehicle checking
at Maweit area, around 17 km from Nongstoin and arrested three
LAEF cadres from Mawlait village in West Khasi Hills District.
No weapon was found in their possession except for an LAEF demand
note. Police informed that the cadres had been serving demand
notes to the businessmen of the area for the past four days.

LAEF 'commander in chief' Riksrang G Momin said that the arrested
persons were not their cadres and asked LAEF 'commander' of Khasi
Hills Agustine Marak to carry out operations against those who
misuse the name of LAEF.

LAEF has informed that the cadres arrested by

In a statement issued to the media, the LAEF 'commander in chief'
Riksrang G Momin said that the arrested persons, Phijo Marak,
Chang K Marak and Thiuss G Momin were not their cadres. "We condemn
their illegal activities being carried out in the name of LAEF",
Momin said. Momin further asked the LAEF 'commander' of Khasi
Hills Agustine Marak to carry out operations against those who
misuse the name of LAEF by way of engaging in illegal activities.

Suspected members of the LEAF abducted a supervisor
of a road construction company, identified as Arun Pandey from
Rongri, East Garo Hills. SP, East Garo Hills Davies Marak stated
that it is the handiwork of the LEAF and was a case of abduction
for ransom.

A K Srivastava, the engineer who was abducted
from Rongara in South Garo Hills close to the IB with Bangladesh,
was released unharmed on the outskirts of Baghmara town in South
Garo Hills District. SP stated that LAEF, a group known to be
responsible for a number of extortion and kidnapping cases in
the region was responsible for the abduction.
