Journalist Neda Mohammad Noori was detained by Taliban’s General Directorate of Intelligence (GDI) in Hofyan-e-Sharif area of Charikar city in Parwan Province, reportedly due to his suspected work with exiled Afghan media outlets on May 4, reports ifj.org. He was a reporter, anchor, and news producer with the Taliban-run national broadcaster Radio Television Afghanistan (RTA). The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and its affiliate, the Afghanistan Independent Journalists Union (AIJU), urge the Taliban to pursue cases related to media work through official channels and cease the arbitrary detention and harassment of media workers.
Non-Pashtun members of Taliban in Afghanistan have announced a rebellion against discriminatory practices within the group, mashriqtv.pk. According to Afghan news agency Aamaj News, members of the non-Pashtun Taliban from Balkh, Panjshir, Kapisa, and Parwan provinces have sent messages to a local Afghan media outlet. These messages highlight the return of Abdul Hamid Khorasani’s stance against racial bias within the ranks of the Taliban. The dissident members have warned of immediate action if the issue persists, marking a significant shift since the Taliban’s rise to power in Afghanistan three years ago. Reportedly, the non-Pashtun Taliban members have expressed their intent to separate from the group if Abdul Hamid Khorasani’s humiliation continues, signaling a potential fracture within the Taliban’s unity.
An intense gun battle erupted between insurgents belonging to People’s Defence Force (PDF) and Myanmar’s Kuki National Front-Burma (KNF-B) in Myo Thit situated in Sagai region of Myanmar, which is close to Kamjong District in Manipur along the Indo-Myanmar border, reports Northeast Now and The Sangai Express. The attacks resulted in the deaths of one PDF cadre and one KNF-B cadre, along with injuries to at least nine PDF and several KNF-B cadres.
One Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre, identified as Mangal Madkam alias Ashok, was killed on the spot, and three to four others were injured during an exchange of fire that broke out between Maoists and Security Forces (SFs) in Dhamtari District of Chhattisgarh, reports abplive.com. Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) RK Mishra stated that they received intelligence indicating the presence of 15-20 Maoists in the border areas, planning a significant event. Consequently, two Police teams were dispatched for an operation during which the Maoists initiated gunfire, leading to the death of Madakam, carrying a reward of INR 500,000, and injuries to three to four other Maoists. The soldiers have also recovered weapons from the dead body of the Maoist. Madakam was the gunman of Ganesh Uike, a ‘central committee (CC)’ member of the Maoist organisation, and after being active in the South Bastar area for a long time, he was carrying out Maoist activities in the Gariabandh area for some years.

The arrested persons have been identified as Chingakham Sanajaoba Singh alias Sana alias Dojo (23), Soibam Sital Singh (24), Maibam Naresh Singh (24), Ningthoujam Ajit Singh (26), Chingsubam Thounagamba Meitei alias Amujao (30) and Wahengbam Premjit Singh alias Abung (40).

On May 10, the National Investigation Agency arrested two Popular Front of India (PFI) cadres identified as Mustafa Paichar and Mansoor Pasha from Anemahal Village in Hassan District of Karnataka, in connection with the Praveen Nettaru murder case in Karnataka in July 2022, reports NIA. Paichar who is the ‘secretary’ of PFI Puttur District service team, was involved in imparting arms training to PFI cadres in the area to prepare them for terrorist attacks. NIA said, “It was on his instructions that the hit service team hacked Praveen Nettaru to death with sharp weapons in a public place. The attack was aimed at striking terror among a section of people in the society.” Both the accused were a part of larger conspiracy to target and kill Hindu leaders.

Four militants, involved in the killing of policemen, were shot dead in the firing of their accomplices, in Karol Jungle of Lahore, the provincial capital of Punjab on May 12, reports ARY News. Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) spokesperson said the team took the arrested militants to Karol Jungle for recovery of the weapons. Upon identification of Faizan Butt, two pistols and hand grenades were recovered by the team. Pakistan’s Special Representative on Afghanistan Asif Ali Durrani on May 10 regretted that the TTP attacks in Pakistan emanating from Afghanistan have significantly increased since the Afghan Taliban took over Kabul, reports Dawn. Speaking at a seminar on ‘The Challenge of Cross-Border Terrorism’ organised by the Institute of Regional Studies (IRS), Mr Durrani said peace in Afghanistan seemed a tall order for now and, therefore, they would have to live with the neighbouring country and manage the affairs with Afghanistan accordingly. “Earlier, it was hoped that with the arrival of the Taliban, the security situation on the Pak-Afghan border would improve but unfortunately the attacks emanating from Afghanistan had increased by 60pc in the last two years,” said Mr Durrani.
