Security Forces (SFs) on April 13 arrested six terrorists involved in targeting a team of polio workers and the Police force from different areas of Balochistan, reports Daily Times. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the SFs conducted intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in Chaman, Sariab (Quetta) and Pishin areas of Balochistan led to the arrest of terrorists who had targeted polio teams in Yaru Bazaar and the Police force in Dera Murad Jamali. A cache of arms and ammunition including explosives, detonators, rockets, mines and improvised explosive device (IEDs) were recovered.

Law enforcement agencies have arrested the leader of a gang of hitmen belonging to the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), who were involved in the killing of 16 Police officers over the last three months in the Quetta city, reports Dawn. This was disclosed by Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo at a press conference here on Tuesday after presiding over a meeting on the law and order situation in the province. “Fazal Haq Ghaibzai, the ring leader of the TTP target killers, was arrested during a joint operation by police, the Counter Terrorism Department and the Frontier Corps on Tuesday night (April 3) on the basis of intelligence information,” Mr Bizenjo said.

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on April 8 arrested four Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) militants over the allegations of terror financing through bank robberies, kidnapping for ransom and extortion from unspecified areas of Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, reports Dawn. The arrested militants were identified as Zakir alias Qari, Affan, Muzamil and Abdul Hafeez alias Haji, according to Additional Inspector General (AIG) of CTD, Dr Sanaullah Abbasi. CTD Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Junaid Ahmed Shaikh said that during the initial probe, the arrested militants revealed that they had been generating funds for terrorism in Karachi since 2014. SSP Shaikh added that the arrested suspects were affiliated with the Naeem Bukhari-led LeJ group. The suspects had confessed to the generation of around PKR 150 million, which was subsequently handed over to militants for carrying out acts of terrorism.

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) of Karachi on August 21 sentenced a convict,Ismail Khan, to 10 years in jail for collecting funds for Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants and their wings fighting security agencies in Mohmand District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, reports Dawn.The ATC-X judge, who conducted trial in judicial complex inside the Central Jail Karachi, pronounced his verdict after recording evidence and final arguments from both sides.The judge observed that the prosecution proved its charges against the detained accused beyond a shadow of a doubt and convicted him under Section 11-F(6) and 11-W(2) of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.The judge awarded him a sentence of five-years rigorous imprisonment in each section with a fine of PKR 100,000. On default, Khan was ordered to undergo additional six-month rigorous imprisonment. Both sentences will run concurrently.

Both the alleged terrorists belong to the Akhtar Groupof Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).Police revealed that Siddique Ullah came from Afghanistan whereas his facilitator Qadar Ayaz hails from Pakistan. Maryam Nawaz was sentenced to 7 years while her husband, Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar, was handed one-year jail term in the verdict. CTD Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Junaid Ahmed Shaikh said that the Police arrested Dr Abdul Rehman, an orthopedic surgeon at the Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi, and Mufti Malik Rizwan in Gulshan-i-Iqbal when they were collecting donations in a mosque. “The held suspects were generating funds for the banned TTP,” he claimed. “They had got militancy training from Afghanistan.” He said Rehman was a qualified doctor and an “active” TTP worker. He had completed his MBBS from a medical university in Bahawalpur and later he specialised in orthopedics. “He has remained involved in secretly treating wounded terrorists and was arrested after constant monitoring,” the SSP added.

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on June 4 claimed to have arrested an ‘important commander’ of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Rehmat Ali Shah, from the City Railway Colony area of Saddar Town in Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, reports Dawn. CTD Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) (Investigation) Junaid Ahmed Shaikh said Rehmat Ali Shah was allegedly involved in attacks on Security Forces and generating funds for terror. During an initial probe, the arrested TTP suspect ‘confessed’ to his involvement in several acts of terrorism. The suspect with 10 to 15 other TTP militants attacked a Police post with a bomb in the Buner District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) in 2009. He with 40 to 50 TTP militants attacked and captured an FC camp in Buner District in the same year, which remained under their control for one month before it was vacated after the army operation there. Rehmat was also involved in killing one person in Buner over suspicion of being an ‘informer’. Besides, he had been generating funds for the banned outfits of TTP and Lashkar-i-Jhangvi (LeJ) in Karachi since 2009.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the CTD Atizaz Ahmed Goraya said “LeJ leader Abdul Rahim Muhammad Shahi was arrested in the Village Aid area. A hand grenade and a pistol were found from his possession. Shahi was involved in suicide bombings, target killings and other subversive activities. He carried a head money of PKR 2 million.” The DIG Atizaz Ahmed Goraya said during interrogation the suspect had confessed that he was involved in the suicide bombing in Hazara Town’s Vegetable Market, the truck blast at the official residence of the inspector general of Balochistan, suicide attacks on Bahadur Khan Women University and Hazar Ganji, a firing incident in the Bolan Medical College hospital and many incidents of target killings in Quetta. The suspect was involved in around 200 incidents of target killings, the DIG said, adding that he had been using different aliases, including Babul, captain and doctor, to hide his identity. His name had been placed in the Red Book. The DIG Atizaz Ahmed Goraya said the suspect had disclosed names of his group’s members, adding that efforts were under way to arrest them.

Police on November 23 arrested over 100 members of the Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), including its chief Khadim Hussain Rizvi who had given a protest call for November 25 against the acquittal of Christian woman Aasia Bibi, reports Times of India. Last month, TLP disrupted daily life across Pakistan by staging widespread protests following Bibi's acquittal in a blasphemy case by the Supreme Court. "We have taken into custody more than 100 TLP leaders and activists including its chief Khadim Hussain Rizvi from Lahore and other parts of the Punjab province," a senior Police officer said. He said a team comprising government officials and clerics tried to persuade Rizvi in Lahore late on November 23-night to defer its November 25 protest, but he refused to budge."On this, police arrested him and other leaders," the officer said."Khadim Hussain Rizvi has been taken into protective custody by Police from Lahore. The action was prompted by TLP's refusal to withdraw its call for protest on November 25. It is to safeguard public life, property and order," Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry tweeted.
