January 7

Security Forces arrest 13 cadres of the Bodo Liberation Tigers (BLT) from different hideouts in the Nalbari district.

January 11

Two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel are killed and 14 persons are injured as unidentified Bodo terrorists explode a bomb on a bridge between Madti and Amlaiguri in Kokrajhar district.

January 12

Nine BLT terrorists are killed by the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) at Mohkhuli village in Nalbari district.

January 16

Unidentified terrorists kill three persons and injure a woman at Tebitula village in Nalbari district.

January 20

Unified Command Structure is formed to co-ordinate the functioning of various security force agencies conducting counter-insurgency operations in the State.

Two United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) terrorists are killed in an encounter with the security forces at Guwabari under Tamalpur police station limits in Nalbari district.

Six persons, including five army personnel of the 10 Mahar Regiment, are killed and four others injured as ULFA terrorists explode an Improvised Explosive Device and subsequently open fire on a Army party at Rongsowal-Sapekhati road near Dilli river in Dibrugarh district.

Four CRPF personnel are killed and eight others are injured in an ambush by National Socialist Council of Nagaland- Issac-Muivah (NSCN-IM) cadres near Diphu in Karbi-Anglong district.

July 2

Six army personnel are killed and two others are injured as suspected Bodoland Army militants blow up an army vehicle by triggering an explosive device at Phulbari village in Darrang district.

July 4

Prominent social activist Sanjoy Ghosh is killed by ULFA terrorists in Majuli.

July 7

Five army personnel are killed as NSCN-IM cadres ambush their vehicle near Nimahur in the North Cachar Hills district.

July 15

ULFA leadership attends the Unrepresented Nation People’s Organisation (UNPO) meeting in London.

July 8

Four Arunachal Pradesh State police personnel are killed and six others injured as ULFA terrorists trigger an explosion at Melmukh in Lakhimpur district.

July 18

Five army personnel on their way from Khairabari camp to Tangla in Darrang district are killed as ULFA terrorists blow up their vehicle at Hapapara.

August 5

ULFA ‘Publicity Secretary’ Mithinga Daimary confirms social activist Sanjay Ghosh’s killing.

August 8

ULFA kills two Army officers, including a Brigadier, as they come out of a dental clinic on the GS Road at Christian Basti in the Guwahati city.

August 11

Six civilians are killed as NDFB terrorists open indiscriminate fire upon a group of villagers at Lahapura under Rangiya Police station limits in Kamrup district.

Subsequently, the same group of militants kill four more civilians at Hatimura village under Rangiya police station.

In another incident, NDFB terrorists kill two civilians at Nikashi in Nalbari district.

August 13

Seven persons are killed and eight others are injured when a bomb planted by suspected ULFA terrorists on the rail track explodes beneath a passenger train at Chumani near Silanibari railway station in North Lakhimpur district.

August 15

NDFB kills 14 civilians, including four women and two children, in two separate attacks at Khairabari and Meehguri villages in Nalbari district.

August 18

Six persons are killed by unidentified assailants in an attack on the Bodo dominated Nasigaon village in Nalbari district.

August 22

Four Army personnel of the 13 Field regiment, including a Major, are killed in an ambush by the ULFA at Amalage Garogaon in Sonitpur district.

August 25

Two ULFA cadres are killed in an encounter at Hawaipur in Nagaon district. Separately, two more ULFA cadres are killed in an encounter at Deka Senshowagaon under Majuli Police station limits in Jorhat district.

August 27

Four CRPF personnel are killed and 10 others injured in an ambush by the ULFA at Naharjan, approximately 85 kms from Dibrugarh.

September 1

‘Finance secretary’ of NDFB and anther cadre are killed during an encounter with the security forces near Madhubi in Darrang district.

September 4

Four ULFA terrorists are killed in an encounter at Dolatharinear Bornod in Kamrup district.

September 7

Five civilians, including a woman and a child, are killed by BLT terrorists at Deulguri Chuba under Tamulpur police station jurisdiction in Nalbari district.

September 22

Four BLT terrorists are killed during an encounter at Pub Dakhenkuchi in the Nalbari district.

October 3

Union Government proscribes the BLT for two years.

October 18

Two ULFA terrorists are killed in an encounter at Dili Reserve Forests in Upper Assam.

Separately, two more ULFA cadres are killed during an encounter at Dabluhai village in Jorhat district.

October 26

Five NDFB terrorists are killed in a factional fight at the Tokrajhar forest area in the Kokrajhar district.

November 13

Three ULFA terrorists are killed in an encounter with the Army at Balibhata Barcharia in Lakhimpur district.

November 27

ULFA terrorists blow up oil pipelines in three different places at Supariguri in Bongaigaon district, at Chenijan Tea Estate near Jorhat town and Chakalatinga Tea Estate in Jorhat district.

November 29

Six CRPF personnel are killed as ULFA terrorists blow up a vehicle near Teok in Jorhat district.

December 1

Four ULFA terrorists are killed in an encounter at Banpara near Bongaigaon town.

December 6

A police officer and two ULFA terrorists are killed and several police personnel are injured in an encounter at Garudhalia village in the Dibrugarh district.

December 7

ULFA lays three conditions for talks with the Union Government: (a) Negotiations to be held in a third country. (b) Negotiations to be held in presence of United Nations representatives. (c) Negotiations only on the ‘Sovereignty’ of Assam.

December 14

Four CRPF personnel are killed and eight others are injured as the NDFB blow up a convoy vehicle at North Nakdalbari village in Bongaigaon district.

December 18

Four villagers are killed as NDFB terrorists open indiscriminate fire at Khagaribari village in the Barpeta district.

December 20
