A No-Confidence motion determined by the General Purpose Committee of People’s Majlis against its Speaker—Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed in July 2017, to be authentic and scheduled for November 1 [today], reports Maldives Times. In July 2017, the no-confidence motion was filed and signed by 45 Members of Parliament (MPs). However, the motion failed when 13 MPs of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) who signed the motion, left the party and the Elections Commission decided that those MPs have lost their Parliamentarian seats and the 42 signatures needed for the motion, are no longer valid. After filing the motion with 51 signatures of MPs at the end of the last month [October], the joint Parliamentary group of the opposition coalition decided that the MP for Maamiligi Constituency in Raa Atoll— Qasim Ibrahim, will be replacing Maseeh.
