Two soldiers, identified as HC Kuldeep of 15 Sikh Light Infantry and Rifleman Subhum Sharma of 8 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles, were killed and four others injured when Pakistani troops violated the Cease Fire Agreement (CFA) along the Line of Control (LoC) in Nowgam sector in Kupwara District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on October 1, reports Daily Excelsior. The four Army soldiers who were injured have been identified as Naib Subedar Ishar Das, Rifleman Gorie Singh, HC Danash all from 8 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry and Sepoy Sandeep Singh of 15 Sikh Light Infantry. Pakistani troops also fired artillery rounds causing huge explosions which could be heard from a distance causing panic among the residents in Macchil and Keran sectors. Some residents who were in the firing range moved to safer places, however, Indian troops gave befitting reply and also fired artillery rounds, used mortars and heavy machine guns.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on October 1, said it has filed a charge sheet against Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) ‘chief’ Hafiz Saeed, one of his Pakistani associates, a Delhi-based hawala (illegal money transaction) dealer and others in connection with a money laundering probe linked to an alleged terror financing case, reports oneindia.com. The agency's case is based on a National Investigation Agency (NIA) complaint filed against the accused and Pakistan-based organisation Falah-i-Insaniyat Foundation (FIF). "The prosecution complaint (charge sheet) has been filed against Indian national Mohammad Salman, Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, his ‘deputy’ Shahid Mehmood, a Dubai-based Pakistani Mohammad Kamran and Mohammad Salim alias mama, a Delhi-based hawala operator under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act in an ongoing investigation linked to a terror financing case," the ED said in a statement.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against three persons who suspectedly underwent training in Pakistan to carry out terrorist attacks in India on the instructions of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), reports Daily Excelsior on October 2. An NIA official said, the charge-sheet against Muneeb Hameed Bhat, Junaid Ahmad Mattoo and Umer Rashid Wani, all residents of Kulgam District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), was filed before a special NIA court in Jammu on October 1, and was filed under sections of the Ranbir Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). Mattoo and Wani were killed in separate encounters in Jammu and Kashmir in 2017 and 2018, respectively, the NIA official said. The case relates to subversive activities of the LeT in Kulgam. It was motivating youths such as Bhat to join the terror group and organised their travel to Pakistan for terrorist training on the basis of valid travel documents following the recommendation of separatist leaders.

Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, on October 2, appealed to militants to shun the path of violence and extremism and offered them Government jobs and entrepreneurial opportunities, reports Daily Excelsior. Sinha said that people of J&K, especially youth, want to tread the path of progress and development and appealed those who have joined militant ranks to shun the path of violence and return to mainstream for dignified livelihood. He further said, “People of Jammu and Kashmir are peace loving people who believe in dignified life. Our youth now have understood the terrible results of violence and it is why they are pursuing their career and cracking prestigious exams.” Lieutenant Governor, Sinha, was speaking at the launching the 3rd phase of ‘Back to Village” program in Shopian District of J&K in India on October 2.

Pakistani troops resorted to intense mortar shelling on forward areas violating the Cease Fire Agreement (CFA) along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on October 4, reports Daily Excelsior. There was no report of any casualty on the Indian side in the shelling. A defence spokesperson said, “At about 3.20 am [IST], Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing with small arms and intense shelling with mortars along LoC in Mankote sector. Police, SOG and Army recovered some arms and ammunition during a Cordon and Search Operation (CaSO) in Poonch District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on October 4, reports Daily Excelsior. A joint CaSO was carried out by a SOG, Surankote Police and 16 Rashtriya Rifles at Gali Girjjan in Surankote, leading to the recovery of an assault rifle with three magazines and 150 rounds along with a Pakistan made pistol. However, no arrest has been made in connection with the recovery so far, the officials added.

Official sources said, on a tip off about the presence of militants, troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) launched a CaSO in the wee hours at Nowpora village in the District, sealing all the exit points and house-to-house were searched.
