CPI-Maoist had allegedly abandoned Pramanik (32) in 2011 when he had expressed his growing disenchantment with left-wing extremism. After being ousted from the Maoist camp, the supply of money to Pramanik started drying up and he was finding it increasingly difficult to look after his family with what he earned from his small paddy fields in Tamar, 70 km from Ranchi, Police said.

One policeman was injured on December 11 when Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres exploded a landmine near Debar More on NH-75 in Latehar District, reports the Times of India. The incident happened in the afternoon when an escort party was returning to Palamu from Ranchi with former Director General of Police (DGP) V D Ram, who is now a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, responsible for the party affairs in Palamu. The blast comes two days after at least 11 policemen, including Deputy Superintendent of Police Anup Badaik, had escaped an attack on the same highway.

Congress MLA from Hazaribag, Saurav Narayan Singh, on December 12 escaped an attack by suspected Left Wing Extremists in the forests near Kanauda Ghati on the Katkumsandi-Hazaribag Road in the Hazaribagh District late on December 11 evening, reports The Times of India. Police on December 12 said the legislator's security guards, while returning from Pathalgad on the border of Hazaribag-Chatra Districts, spotted large number of armed insurgents. After getting information from them Police reached the spot and chased the insurgents who on seeing the Police ran away and took shelter in the forest. The Police said that in the process of fleeing from the spot the insurgents left behind some explosive materials and magazines containing live cartridges. The Police said that they are trying to identify the insurgents whether they belonged to the Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC) or the Jharkhand Prastuti Committee (JPC). Both are trying to dominate their influence in the region.

The revelation, made by Manish Marandi alias Manbel Marandi (25), who was arrested in Deori area of Giridih District of Jharkhand on December 14, comes days after Union Minister of Home Affairs (UMHA) Sushil Kumar Shinde said Bihar was soft on Maoists and the rebels have realized that the state is a soft target to build their arsenal and they may resort to spectacular strikes in the future. "Several cadres active on the Bihar-Jharkhand borders like to work in the Bihar area. The cadres go to Jamui's Chakai, Sono and other areas in the day and return in the evening after participating in party activities. Jamui District of Bihar is very close to Giridih," said Ajay Sahu, officer-in-charge of Deori Police Station. Police said more than a dozen heavily armed Maoists reached the site — where a bridge is being constructed over the Dharva river by a Jamshedpur-based private company under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) — around midnight and carried out the abduction. Nagesiya had formed his own group two years ago after parting ways with PLFI.
