The victims, all women, were targeted as they returned home from their school in Khar, the main town of Bajaur District, officials said. “Five to six militants who were hiding their faces ambushed them. One female teacher died on the spot. Bajaur was once a stronghold of the Taliban who are opposed to the education of girls and have destroyed hundreds of schools in recent years.

Asad Qureshi (51) was abducted while he was trying to sneak into North Waziristan on March 26 to make a documentary for BBC Channel 4, along with two former officials of Inter Service Intelligence (ISI) - Khalid Khawaja and Sultan Ameer Tarara aka ‘Colonel Imam’. Sources said that the Qureshi family had brokered a deal with militants and paid a ransom of PNR 14 million for his and his driver Rustam Khan’s release. The British High Commission in Islamabad confirmed Qureshi’s release and said he was being extended consular assistance. While, Khalid Khawaja was beheaded on April 30, 2010 and according to officials, the other hostage, ‘Colonel Imam’, is believed to be alive and in captivity. The trio were in the custody of Asian Tigers, a militant group headed by Sabir Mehsud.

In the first attack, which began at about 4.30 am (PST) in the morning and continued for half an hour, 10 missiles hit a residential compound owned by Badshah Khan in Dandi Darpakhel area of Miramshah. Badshah Khan, the sources said, had links with the Haqqani network. The main compound was destroyed and 14 foreigners were killed. In the evening, drones carried out the second attack and fired missiles at a house in Dattakhel area, killing seven militants.

Four persons were killed when militants attacked the house of a pro-Government tribal elder, Malak Buner Khan, in Ghafoor Shah Village of Khar tehsil (revenue unit) in Bajaur Agency of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) in the midnight of September 15, reports Dawn. Sources said militants used heavy weapons and hurled hand grenades at the house. Ismail Khan, 25-year-old son, and Nawabzada Jan, 18-year-old nephew, of Malak Buner Khan were killed in the attack. The Security Forces (SFs) cordoned off the area soon after the attack and started search operation. They killed two of the fleeing militants. SFs continued search operation on September 16 and arrested more than 12 suspected persons.

Three persons were killed in terrorist attacks on NATO oil tankers in Landi Kotal and Torkham areas in Khyber Agency of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) on September 23, reports Dawn. The first incident took place on the main Peshawar-Landi Kotal road in Zakhakhel area of Landi Kotal where two oil tankers caught fire when an explosive device believed to have been placed in one of the vehicles went off. The tanker driver and his helper died of burns. A passer-by was also killed. Later, seven oil tankers and three other vehicles were destroyed in two successive blasts near the Torkham border. A house located near the site of the blasts was partially damaged. Abdullah Aizam Brigade, an al Qaeda and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) affiliated outfit, claimed responsibility for the attacks. Source said the outfit had earlier warned transporters with dire consequences if they did not stop supply to NATO forces in Afghanistan.
