Approximately 126 members of the Afghan Security Forces were killed in a Taliban suicide attack on the National Directorate of Security (NDS) Forces Training Center in Maidan Shahr, administrative capital of the province, reports Reuters. Attackers rammed a captured military Humvee packed with explosives into a training centre of the NDS in Maidan Wardak province, west of the capital Kabul. At least two gunmen followed up, spraying the compound with gunfire before they were shot down. “We have information that 126 people have been killed in the explosion inside the military training centre, eight special commandos are among the dead,” said an unnamed senior official in the Defence Ministry in Kabul, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Taliban suicide bomber detonated a car bomb close to the base. According to spokesman for Provincial Governor Incident happened at about 0700 Hrs (local time) after a car bomb exploded close to a base where Afghan Special Forces are stationed. The Spokesperson also stated that security forces also suffered casualties but no exact information is available so far.

At least ten Taliban militants including one of their ‘military commission chiefs’ were killed during separate operations in southeastern Ghazni province of Afghanistan on February 8, reports The Khaama Press. The provincial Police commandment in a statement said the coalition forces carried out an airstrike targeting two vehicles at around 5:40pm on February 8. The statement further added that the airstrike was carried out in Qara Bagh District, leaving eight militants dead including one of their ‘military commission chiefs’ identified as Mawlavi Sahar. The Afghan Forces also ambushed militants in Khamari area of Moqor District in the province at 11:00pm on February 8, leaving two militants dead, the provincial Police commandment added.
