At least 41 persons were injured in clashes between the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) cadres and the Police in the dawn-to-dusk general strike called by BNP on February 4 in 16 northern Districts of Bangladesh, reports New Age. 30 people were injured in Thakurgaon District, eight in Sirajganj District, two in Jaipurhat District and one woman in Bogra District. The opposition BNP called the general strike demanding the release of its acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and party leader Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu and withdrawal of the cases filed against them. All motorised vehicles remained off the roads and shops, markets and commercial establishments remained closed during the general strike in the 16 Districts. Banks, Government offices and educational institutions, however, remained open with a low transactions and thin attendance.

At least three people were killed and many injured across the country on February 5 as Jamaat-e-Islam (JeI) and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) cadres enforced a dawn-to-dusk hartal (shut down) protesting the war crimes trial of its leader Abdul Quader Mollah, reports The Daily Star. In Chittagong District, two ICS cadres (Imran Khan and Afzal Hossain) and Shafiqu, a worker of Youngone factory were killed during a clash with Police. Police arrested 15 ICS cadres from the District.In capital Dhaka, the JeI-ICS cadres exploded 8-10 crude bombs when police obstructed them. A Police constable, Nur Nabi, was injured and 52 cadres were arrested from the city. In Comilla District, one JeI-ICS cadre was injured in Police firing. In Rajshahi District, about 10 cadres were injured in a clash with Police as they were intercepted by the law-enforcers. In Khulna District, Police arrested seven cadres from the Khulna city. In Sylhet District, 30 people, including a constable, were injured. In Satkhira District, three Policemen were injured.In Bogra District, Police arrested five cadres. In Natore District, Police arrested one cadre. In Laxmipur District, Police arrested four cadres. In Gazipur District, Police arrested 15 cadres.

Barring a few incidents of violence in three Districts, the daylong hartal enforced by JeI-ICS cadres passed off largely disregarded in Rajshahi Division. People of Bogra, Natore, Naogaon, Joypurhat and Sirajganj Districts rejected the hartal while it ended amid a few stray incidents of violence in Rajshahi, Pabna and Chapainawabganj Districts. At least 40 persons were killed as Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) cadres clashed with law enforcers across the country on February 28 centering on the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) verdict that sentenced JeI leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee to death penalty on February 28 on charges of war crimes he had committed in 1971, reports New Age. Seven were killed in Rangapur District, six including four Policemen in Gaibandha District, five in Satkhira District, four in Thakurgaon District, four including one Policeman in Chittagong District, two each in Sirajganj, Cox’s Bazar, Chapainawabganj and Noakhali Districts and one each in Dhaka, Dinajpur, Moulvibazar, Natore, Bogra and Rajshahi Districts. More than 2,000 people were also injured in the clashes according to the Police and hospital officials. Most of the casualties are reported to have been caused by firing by the Police, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

At least 25 people were injured in clashes between Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)-Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) activists and Police during the ‘black-flag procession’ across the country on November 18, repports The Independent. BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the programme all across the country to protest against the holding of a cabinet meeting by the ministers who had earlier resigned. In Dhaka city, at least 10 people, including a Policeman, were injured in a clash between JeI activists and Police at Mirpur area. Police said that JeI activists had brought out a black-flag procession near Ideal School. In Rajshahi District, at least 15 people were injured in a clash between BNP activists and Police at the Rajshahi city. Witnesses said that when BNP activists brought out the black-flag procession in front of the Rajshahi college, Police used rubber bullets and teargas shell canisters to disperse the procession, leaving 15 activists injured.

In Dhaka city, six people were injured with shrapnel as blockaders exploded homemade bombs. Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) recovered 10 crude bombs from the possession of Anwaruzzaman Anwar, joint convener of BNP’s Mohanagar committee. In Cox's Bazar District, a bus helper sustained burn injuries when miscreants set fire to his vehicle in Teknaf sub-District. The victim, Khairul Bashar, was asleep inside the parked bus when it was torched. In Pabna District, a leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of Awami Laegue (AL) was allegedly beaten by Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) cadres in Ishwardi sub-District. In Bogra Dsitrict, 10 blockaders were arrested during the joint forces’ drives in different areas of the District. In Lalmonirhat District, members of the joint forces arrested nine JeI-ICS Cadres from Kafir Bazar in Patgram sub-District for their alleged involvement in violence and acts of sabotage during blockades. In Chittagong District, JeI-ICS Cadres brought out a flash procession in Khatiber Bari area and hurled two crude bombs targeting a Police van.
