Three cadres of the Janajuddha faction of the Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP- Janajuddha), including a regional leader, were killed in two separate incidents on August 2, reports Daily Star. Regional leader Jahangir Alam and a front ranking extremist of the outfit, identified as Yarul Islam, were shot dead in an encounter with the Police at Beel Amla area in the Mirpur District. Police said the duo were ‘most wanted’ outlaws in the District and belonged to Khalishakundi in the Daulatpur sub-district of Kushtia District. Subsequently, Police also recovered two pistols and 12 bullets from their possession.

A regional leader of the Janajuddha faction of the Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP), identified as Naharul Islam, was killed in an encounter with the Police at Jagannathpur village in Kushtia District in the morning of August 22 (today), reports Daily Star. Acting on a tip-off, a team of Daulatpur Police surrounded a field at Jagannathpur where a group of extremists led by Naharul were holding meeting at about 4.00am (BST). After an hour-long encounter, Police recovered the dead body of Naharul along with one LG gun and 24 bullets from the incident site. However, the other militants managed to escape. Naharul was reportedly accused in at least 10 cases, including six of murder, Police said.

Three left-wing extremists of different outfits were killed in separate incidents in Kushtia, Magura and Pabna Districts on August 25, reports Daily Star. Acting on a tip-off, separate teams of the Detective Branch and Kushtia Police engaged in an encounter with the cadres of the Gono Bahini at Milpara Shashan Ghat, as the cadres were crossing the Gorai River on boat around 4:30am (BST). Police recovered the dead body of regional unit ‘commander’ of the outfit Shahinur from the spot after his accomplices fled. Police also recovered one locally-made gun and 15 bullets from the spot. Kushtia Police said that Shahinur was accused of extortion, mugging and looting on the river ways.

A cadre of the Gono Bahini, identified as Asraful Islam alias Asha Mondol, was killed in an encounter with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Durbachara area in Kushtia District on September 7 (today), reports Daily Star. According to the RAB, being tipped off, a team from RAB-12 raided Durbachara village at about 3:45am (BST) when some Gono Bahini cadres led by Asha were holding a meeting. As the RAB personnel surrounded the underground operatives, they opened fire, forcing the RAB officials to retaliate. The RAB officials also recovered a pipe gun and two bullets from the spot. Police said that one of the top Gono Bahini cadres, Asha, was accused in seven cases, including two for murder filed with Kushtia Sub District and Islamic University Police Stations.

Another Police team led by Assistant Police Super Alamgir Hossain raided Chadgara Eidgah on information that a group of Gono Mukti Fouj operatives were holding a meeting at around 5:00am. The armed cadres led by Biplob started firing at Police, forcing the Police to retaliate. When the cadres fled the incident site, the dead body of Biplob was found from the spot. Police also recovered two LGs and nine bullets from the spot. Biplob was accused in a dozen cases including five for murder filed with the Kushtia Police Station. According to Police, Biplob recently threatened a Police official in the Kushtia District with death.

Three Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) cadres were killed in encounter with Security Forces (SFs) in the capital Dhaka and Kushtia District, reports Daily Star. They were identified as Mohon Malitha, Aroz Ali and Edu Mondol. In Kushtia, Mohon Malitha was killed in an encounter with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Lalnagar village in Daulatpur Sub-District. Acting on a tip-off, RAB-12 raided Lalnagar where PBCP cadres, led by Mohon, were holding a meeting at about 4:00am (BST) on September 26 (today). The RAB officials cordoned off the area and asked the cadres to surrender. But the criminals opened fire forcing them to fire back that triggered the encounter. Later, the body of Mohon was found lying on the encounter site while his associates managed to escape. RAB officials recovered one pipe gun and one bullet, two bombs and two knives from the incident site. Mohon was reportedly accused in seven cases, including six for murder, Daulatpur Police said.

Two left-wing extremists were killed in two separate encounters with the Security Forces (SFs) in the Kushtia and Pabna Districts on October 7, reports Daily Star. The deceased were identified as Sunnot Ali (36), a top cadre of the Gono Bahini, and Moktar Hossain (30), a ‘regional commander’ of the Sarbahara Party. According to the Police, a team of the Islamic University Police Station raided Uzangram village in Kushtia District where some Gono Bahini cadres, including Sunnot Ali, were holding a meeting under a bridge around 3:30am (BST). Sunnot Ali was killed in the encounter while his accomplices managed to escape. Police recovered one LG gun and five bullets from the encounter site. Sunnot, accused in six cases, was reportedly a close associate of Obaidul alias Lal Bhai, a ‘military commander’ of the Gono Bahini. A team of the Rapid Action Battalion conducted a drive at Kachipara in the Pabna District where a group of Sarbahara cadres was holding a meeting. As soon as the troops reached there, the cadres opened fire forcing them to fire back. Moktar reportedly died on the spot but his accomplices escaped from the encounter site. The deceased were identified as Sakmol (40), a top cadre of the Gono Mukti Fouz (GMF), Delwar Hossain Delu alias Apu (30), a cadre of the Red Flag faction of the Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP-Red Flag), and Aslam Khan (40), a cadre of the Janajuddha faction of the PBCP (PBCP). Acting on a tip off, a joint team of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Police raided a place at Baria in Kushtia District around 3:30am (BST), where at least 20 GMF cadres, including Sakmol, were holding a meeting. The Security Forces (SFs) surrounded the area and asked the cadres to surrender. Refusing to surrender the cadres opened fire at the SFs who retaliated. Sakmol was found dead while other militants managed to escape. The SFs recovered a light gun (LG) and six bullets from the encounter site. Police said that Sakmol was accused in 16 cases, including six murders. In Khulna District, Police confronted cadres of the PBCP-Red Flag, including Apu, while conducting a drive on the bank of river Atharobeki at Rajapur village. While Apu was killed, his accomplices managed to escape injuring two constables - Nasirul Islam and Bakul - in the shootout that lasted for about 20 minutes, said Khulna Superintendent of Police. Police recovered a locally-made gun and four bullets from the encounter site. Apu was reportedly accused in a number of cases, including three of murder. In Bagerhat District, an encounter took place between the cadres of PBCP-Janajuddha and Police at Daibaggakati village in Morelganj sub-district at around 4:30am (BST). Police said they raided a betel leaf enclosure where the PBCP-Janajuddha cadres were holding a meeting. While Aslam was killed, two Police constables - Altaf and Anisuzzaman – received bullet injuries in the encounter. Police recovered a locally-made firearm and 19 bullets from the encounter site.
