Ali was arrested on January 13 and was reportedly taken to the village for the recovery of illegal arms when the RAB team was attacked by his accomplices. Ali died while trying to escape. A shutter gun and two bullets were recovered from the incident site.

Police recovered a gun, 58 rifle bullets, 13 pistol bullets, and five gun cartridges from the encounter site. He was earlier arrested on January 16 along with three women PBCP cadres from the Sonadanga Residential Area. Official sources stated that the arrested women are members of a suicide squad formed to avenge the killings of top PBCP leaders in ‘crossfire’.
