SFs arrested seven KPLT linkmen from Bokajan subdivision in Karbi Anglong District on January 3 for their involvement in the recent violence in the district, reports Times of India. All of them are linkmen of the KPLT and were carrying out subversive activities on behalf of the outfit. A country-made single barrel muzzle loading (SBML) gun and some gunpowder were also found on them. According to Police, the arrested persons were allegedly involved in burning down houses of Rengma Naga villagers at several places in the subdivision on December 27, 28, and 29.

Sub divisional Police officer (Bokajan) Sankar Raimedhi said the newly deployed 10 companies of CRPF, in association with Police, detained 40 persons from separate locations on Friday night and started interrogation. Karbi Anglong Superintendent of Police, Mugdha Jyoti Mahanta on January 12 announced the arrest of a Karbi People’s Liberation Tigers (KPLT) “corporal” Sarhon Teron from Karbi Anglong on January 9, reports The Telegraph. Mahanta further stated that the arrested militant led the Police to recreate the crime scene of the Khowanigaon attack which led to the Karbi-Rengma Naga violence. The trio was arrested in connection with the January 31 Zerikinding abduction of two ginger traders Dhiman Lindo (30) and Sudip Chanda (35). One 3.32 pistol and few ammunition were recovered from the arrested militants. According to a senior Police officer, both the accused have confessed that HSULF was raised in 2013 and became operational in the month of June. They reportedly told Police that presently around 40 Dimasa and 20 Bodo youth constituted the group. The group is also reportedly headed by ‘chairman’ Hakato Aumi.
