SFs arrested seven KPLT linkmen from Bokajan subdivision in Karbi Anglong District on January 3 for their involvement in the recent violence in the district, reports Times of India. All of them are linkmen of the KPLT and were carrying out subversive activities on behalf of the outfit. A country-made single barrel muzzle loading (SBML) gun and some gunpowder were also found on them. According to Police, the arrested persons were allegedly involved in burning down houses of Rengma Naga villagers at several places in the subdivision on December 27, 28, and 29.

The Sentinel reports that based on specific information, a top Karbi National Liberation Army (KNLA) militant was arrested with sophisticated arms in the night of April 17 by Dokmoka Police from Baghpani paharline in Karbi Anglong District. The arrested KNLA reported to be as ‘Deputy Commander in chief’ of the KLNA militant outfit, who was identified as Rensing Rongpi alias Labong (25) was taking shelter in the residence of one Rajen Taro. One M–16 rifle (LMG), one magazine and one mobile were recovered from his possession. The KNLA militant leader confessed that he was actively involved in several communal conflicts that took place recently in the District.

However, three militants managed to escape. The operation was launched based on a tip off about the presence of armed UPLA militants in the village of Rhyphum. A factory made 9 mm pistol, four rounds of live ammunition, one Chinese hand grenade, incriminatory documents and one mobile handset with three different SIM cards were also recovered from the slain militant. A M21 Chinese made Rifle, a smooth bore breech loading gun (SBBL), a 9 MM pistol and two Chinese hand grenades were surrendered by them. Surrendered Karbi National Liberation Army (KNLA) militants have been identified as Songja Tokbi, Kensing Ronghang, Arun Engti and Kamsing Rongpi and they deposited a AK-47 rifle, two magazines of AK-47 rifle, a broken magazine of AK-47 rifle, 29 rounds of ammunition, a 9 mm pistol, seven rounds of 9 mm ammunition, 13 live rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition and six live rounds of 12 bore cartridge. With the arrest of two militants, identified as Durbachan Langthasa and Dilli Daulagapu, near Dhansiri in Karbi Anglong District on October 13, it has been confirmed that a new militant group, Hills State United Liberation Front’ (HSULF) with its base at Assam-Nagaland border has been formed , reports Nagaland Post. One 3.32 pistol and few ammunition were recovered from the arrested militants. According to a senior Police officer, both the accused have confessed that HSULF was raised in 2013 and became operational in the month of June. They reportedly told Police that presently around 40 Dimasa and 20 Bodo youth constituted the group. The group is also reportedly headed by ‘chairman’ Hakato Aumi. Police source stated that the two militants stated that that the outfit’s arsenal consisted of 2 lathed guns, three G-3 rifle, three Self Loading rifle, two carbine, twenty AK 47 and 56 assault rifle, twenty 9mmpistol and 50grenades.
