However, no one was injured in the explosions. “A powerful bomb exploded near the deputy commissioner’s office in the eastern part of Imphal at 8 a.m. There were three more subsequent explosions by noon in different parts of the city,” a Police spokesperson said. It is suspected that the militants sneaked into Manipur from Myanmar past border pillar number 43 and went back to Myanmar through the same route after the attack.

A civilian, identified as Moirangthem Sanyai Singh, was injured when a moderately powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded at the roadside of the diversion to ITI Phaknung along the Imphal-Ukhrul road near the Sawombung Bridge under Lamlai Police station in Imphal East District on December 11, reports Kanglaonline. The bomb was planted in a bush along the roadside and the explosion left a half foot deep crater at the roadside. The Sentinel adds that the explosion took place when the two Border Security Force (BSF) vehicles had just crossed the area. Police sources said that the BSF personnel were patrolling the Sawombung area along the Imphal Ukhrul road. When they reached a small bridge one foreign made powerful bomb which was planted under the bridge was detonated using a remote control device.

Police said the powerful IED exploded in the betel leaf market at the crowded Thangal Bazar, a non-Manipuri concentrated and commercial area around 11.30am, killing betel leaf-seller Naresh Shahni, 30, who hailed from Bihar. Joylal Shah, 40, who succumbed to his injuries later, was another non-local betel leaf trader.
