Six Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) exploded on January 26 at Imphal, reports Kanglaonline. No casualties were reported during the blasts. The first explosion was reported around 7 am on the Imphal River bank near Moirangkhom Hicham Yaichampat about hundred metres away from the 1st Manipur Rifles Parade Ground, the starting point of the Republic day parade in Imphal West District. Seconds after the first explosion, another IED exploded at Khoyathong Pukhri Achouba Mapan in Imphal West District. Two more explosions were reported during the Republic Parade at the Imphal river bank near KR Lane and 9.10 at Golapati in Imphal East District. Further an explosion occurred in Thoubal District at Wangjing Purana Heitupokpi Mamang Leikai and at Bishnupur District at Loukoipat junction.

Three Border Security Force (BSF) troopers sustained splinter injuries when militants attacked a foot patrol by exploding two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) on a village road at Napet Palli in Imphal East District on February 8, reports The Telegraph. Police stated that an IED, planted near the Khabrang Bridge along Napet Palli road, nearly 20km from Imphal, exploded while a BSF foot patrol was passing the area, injuring three troopers. Within minutes, another IED planted nearby also exploded. The search team interrogated more than 10 persons, who were found at a nearby petrol pump at the time of the explosions. But no one has been arrested. February 8 is the founding day of Manipur People's Army (MPA), the military wing of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF).Nagaland Post stated that the identity of the troopers as constable CT Suman Gosh, who is stated to be in critical condition and Sub-Inspector Jai Bhagawan Singh and Constable Ghurelal Jadav

Seven persons, including four policemen, were injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast at Masjid Road in Imphal West District on February 18, reports Kanglaonline. Following the report of a bomb planted at the extreme west corner of the Luxmi Bazaar, and also the entrance point of Masjid road, near the area occupied by beetle leaves dealers, a team of city police rushed to the area and detected an IED, fixed to a mortar shell. Police team tried to retrieve the bomb, when the bomb exploded. The injured Police men have been identified as Assistant Sub Inspector Yumnam Sunil, Constable Salam Dineswor, constable Taj-uddin and Constable Rajesh. The injured civilians have been identified as one K Pakpi, Khundrakpam Homeswari and Yambem Norkey. Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh condemned the incident terming it as an act of cowards. He also ruled out any security lapses. The Hindu further adds that migrants, who sell betel leaves, were the possible targets of the blast.

Two Assam Rifles (AR) troopers, identified as Havildar NK Dolly and Havildar BN Kshetri, were killed and another trooper, identified as Rifleman GD Shastra, was wounded, and an unidentified Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) militant was killed in an encounter on March 31, at a place between Kamjong and Kongkan villages in Ukhrul District, reports The Sangai Express. The suspected militants exploded an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) before they rained bullets on the troops. Two IEDs were recovered during the search by Security Forces (SFs). Times of India further adds that Kamjong and its surrounding areas, which border Myanmar, have been witnessing frequent gun battles between SFs and rebels over the last few years.

On June 4, militants ambushed a military convoy of 6 Dogra Regiment of the Indian Army killing at least 18 Army personnel and injured 11 others, at a place between Paralong and Charong villages in Chandel District, reports The Shillong Times. Army spokesman Colonel Rohan Anand said in Delhi that 18 army men were killed and 11 injured in the attack. Earlier he had put the figure at 20. The militants used Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPG’s), Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and automatic weapons in the attack, reports The Hindu. Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack as mindless and very distressing. He tweeted that “Today’s mindless attack in Manipur is very distressing. I bow to each and every soldier who has sacrificed his life for the Nation. Meanwhile Manohar Parrikar stated that those who committed this “cowardly act” will be brought to book. Times of India adds that the casualties include a junior commissioned officer (JCO), a signal havildar, a driver and 14 riflemen. The Sangai Express further adds that one militant was killed in the ambush and that some personnel are still missing after the incident massive search operation was still on to nab the attackers and trace the missing personnel.

Asiho was said to be having dinner in the next room when the bomb exploded while other family members were watching TV in another room. Police have recovered few splinters of the bomb. However, they are clueless on who or how the bomb was planted.
