According to official sources, an unidentified terrorist shot dead a prominent activist of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Ghulam Mohammad Dar alias Mam Kol, in front of his office at Hyderpora Chowk on the Srinagar-Airport road in the Budgam district on February 16. Later, two more terrorists appeared across the road and reportedly shot dead two Constables of the District Police Budgam. Daily Excelsior has reported that while the PDP activist was targeted near his private office on the main road, the Police were on duty to clear the airport road for the convenience of the returning Haj pilgrims. Eye-witnesses said that the terrorists, at least three in number, fired almost simultaneously on their targets. According to a local news agency CNS, the "Save Kashmir Movement" has claimed responsibility for these attacks.

Unidentified terrorists fired rifle grenades targeting Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s public rally at Beerwah in the Budgam district on February 27. Even as the Chief Minister and two of his Ministers escaped unhurt, a 22-year-old woman was killed and four persons, including two children, sustained injuries. The terrorists are reported to have fired two rifle grenades during the Revenue Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yasin’s speech. Both the grenades fell in close vicinity of the public meeting and exploded with a gap of approximately 10 seconds. Later, the Chief Minister delivered his address and said that the terrorist strike was an attempt of certain elements who were attempting to sabotage the current peace process between New Delhi and Islamabad.

The NC top leadership was going to attend the Rasm-e-Chaharum of the former Minister, Safdar Ali Beg, who had been killed by unidentified terrorists in Sarnal locality of Anantnag earlier this week. Daily Excelsior reports that an improvised explosive device, apparently planted in a sand stack at the entrance of the graveyard at Sarnal in Anantnag, went off at 1140 hours (IST), seconds after Omar Abdullah alighted from his car and was heading for the slain NC leader Safdar Ali Beg’s tomb.
