The police also recovered a huge quantity of arms and ammunition from the possession of the Naxalites. The seizures included two .303 bore rifles earlier looted from police, a carbine of US make, a mauser, rifle, gun, two country-made carbines, a country-made pistol, a DBBL gun, a country-made semi-automatic rifle, two grenades and over 300 live cartridges of different bores. The State police chief, while talking to the media in Patna, said senior police officials have reached Arwal to assess the situation and also to interrogate the arrested persons.

The Railway police on March 25 seized an unclaimed bag containing 5,000 detonators, marked IDL, Hyderabad on them and which are used for blasting stones from a railway platform in Dehri-on-Sone. Police sources said the suspects had planned to travel by Mughalsarai-Barkakana passenger train, but on sighting a police party they escaped leaving the bag behind. Railway Superintendent of Police said that involvement of left-wing extremists, Naxalites could not be ruled out. He said a team of experts has been sent to Dehri-on-Sone to look into the matter.

One personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and one left-wing extremist, Naxalite of the Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) were killed and another CRPF personnel injured in an encounter in Vishrampur Saraiya village, under the Tandwa police station limits, Aurangabad district on April 10. The district police, which assisted the CRPF recovered a looted police rifle and several cartridges from the possession of slain MCC activist. The police believe that at least five MCC Naxalites were killed in the encounter. However, their bodies could not be recovered as the police were not able to search them deep inside the dense forest.

A huge quantity of MCC literature, incriminating documents and diaries were also recovered from their possession. An interrogation of the arrested Naxalites led to the recovery of a landmine, two empty containers and seven detonators, besides a huge quantity of wire from a village under Hayaghat police station limits. "This is for the first time that landmines and detonators have been recovered from the MCC men in the north Bihar," informed Darbhanga district police chief, while addressing a press conference on September 18.

A huge quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered by police in a village in Muzaffarpur district, on September 22, after an encounter with left-wing extremists—Naxalites—of the Maoist Communist Centre (MCC). Speaking to the media, a senior police official said police surrounded the village following a tip-off that some MCC Naxalites had assembled there for a meeting. Seeing the police, the Naxalites started firing at them. In retaliation, the police returned fire forcing the Naxalites to retreat. A massive combing operation has been launched to track down the Naxalites.

According to delayed reports, two arms dealers––one based in Nabha, Punjab, and another in Kurukhetra, Haryana––have been arrested on the suspicion that they had supplied arms to left-wing extremists––Naxalites –of the People’s War Group (PWG) and to the Ranvir Sena, a private army of landlords in Bihar. Arms and ammunition including four .32 revolvers, guns of various makes, 150 live cartridges of .12 bore and 200 live cartridges of .32 bore were recovered from the two. The two have been held on November 23, during the course of investigations into arms supply sources of the PWG and Ranvir Sena. Punjab police launched the investigation following the interrogating of a PWG and Ranvir Sena arms supplier.
