The Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres set ablaze two vehicles of a construction company deployed for construction of a road near Punnoor village in Bijapur District on March 8, reports The Pioneer. A road-roller and a Hyva tipper were set on fire by insurgents during the evening hours while the labourers were engaged in construction of road located on Awapalli -Basaguda road. According to Superintendent of Police (SP) K L Dhruv, a group of insurgents walked to the construction site when the Road Opening Party (ROP) had returned to the camp after patrolling. The insurgents poured fuel on the two vehicles deployed for road construction work and torched them, he said.

Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres set ablaze ten vehicles - eight tractors, a truck and a JCB machine - near Iragaon under Dhanora Police Station limits in Kondagaon District on April 1 in a bid to disrupt road construction work, reports The Indian Express. The vehicles were parked at the site where road construction work was underway when they were set afire, Inspector General (IG) of Police (Bastar Range) SRP Kalluri said. Around 12-15 armed Maoists, clad in black uniforms, stormed the place with kerosene and asked construction workers to leave the site. Some villagers asked them not to hamper development works in the region but the ultras did not pay heed to them and set ablaze the vehicles, the IG said. While six tractors belong to locals, the rest of them were belonged to a construction firm, the IG said. Villagers have lodged a complaint in this connection at Dhanora police station, the IG said.

A group of armed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres stormed into a mine operated by National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) Ltd on Bailadila hills mining area under Bacheli Police Station limits in Dantewada District and set afire dumpers and drilling machine involved in mining work, Superintendent of Police (SP) Dantewada, Kamlochan Kashyap informed on August 3, reports The Pioneer. “A group of Maoists arrived at NMDC’s deposit number-5 located on Bailadila hills mining area under Bacheli Police Station limits on the intervening night of Sunday (August 2) and Monday (August 3) and torched the drilling machine and a dumper engaged in mining work,” the SP said. The unit of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel soon got the information of the incident, which reached the spot and opened fire on the rebels. The ultras could not stand the CISF’s firing and ran away deep into the jungle, the SP said. “No one was injured in the incident and police was undertaking combing operation for apprehending the persons involved in incident,” he said.

Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres went on rampage in all four Districts of south Bastar on August 4 during the South Bastar Bandh (general shutdown strike) called by the banned outfit in protest against the Land Acquisition bill, reports The Hindu. Maoists damaged National Highway 16 between Bhairamgad town and Bijapur District headquarters and also set ablaze a passenger vehicle of a private travel company near Badrela village of Bijapur. No one was injured in the incident. Maoists also damaged the railway track between the Kaklur and Kumar Sadara stations in Dantewada District. They damaged the Dornapal-Jagargunda road in Sukma District disrupting traffic until late evening. “The Maoists also destroyed a bridge on Mukram stream near Chintalnar village of Sukma last night. This will hamper supply of ration to Jagargunda and the nearby villages,” said Dinesh Pratap Upadhyay, Deputy Inspector General of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Dantewada range.

Maoists set ablaze a truck and allegedly abducted its helper in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur District, Police said on October 12. “A group of Naxals torched an empty truck of a private transport company and abducted its helper near Bodra nullah under Benoor police station limits late last night,” Narayanpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) C. D. Tirki said. The vehicle was heading towards Benoor from Narayanpur when about 12 armed Maoists stopped it near Bodra nullah. After forcing the the truck’s driver and helper to alight they burnt the vehicle, he said. While escaping from the spot after the offence, they allegedly took the helper along with them assuring the driver that they would release him after a few hours. However, no communication has been received till now about his whereabouts, the officer said.

Maoists set ablaze at least 37 vehicles and machines engaged in road construction work in Bijapur District on October 24, reports The Hindu. “Armed Naxals last night [on Saturday] stormed three locations simultaneously on the Bhopalpatnam-Bhadrakali-Tarlaguda Road, which then enters the Telangana State, and torched 37 construction vehicles and machines,” Bijapur Superintendent of Police (SP) K.L. Dhruv said. After reaching the construction sites in areas falling under the Bhopalpatnam, Bhadrakali and Tarlaguda Police Station limits, the Maoists threatened the labourers there and asked them to leave the place. The Maoists then set the vehicles and machines afire and fled into the forests, said added SP Dhruv.

The bus was heading towards Hyderabad from Jagdalpur when about 50 armed Maoists surrounded the bus near Tahakwada dense forest on NH-30. NDTV adds that subsequently, SFs were rushed to the spot in a Mine-Protected Vehicle (MPV) keeping in view the sensitivity of the region. Near Tahakwada, Maoists fired few rounds on the MPV but soon fled from the spot as the back-up forces reached there and launched retaliatory action.
