A lower rung Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre, identified as Ayata Madkam (30), was arrested by the District Reserve Guard (DRG) from the forests of Nilvaya village in Dantewada District of Chhattisgarh on January 1, reports The Pioneer. Dantewada, Superintendent of Police (SP), Siddharth Tiwari, said Madkam was a Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Majdoor Sangathan (DAKMS) member of Nilvaya Panchayat (village level local self-Government institution) of the outlawed Maoist outfit, and was involved in several Naxalite [Left Wing Extremist, LWE] incidents last year.

The Police arrested four Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, including a wanted woman leader from Odisha in Dhamtari District of Chhattisgarh on January 15, reports newsriveting.com. The woman leader had been identified as Karuna C. She is reported to be the wife of Maoist ‘commander’ Sangram Singh, the senior most Maoist leader in Odisha. According to Police, Karuna had been diagnosed with a serious cataract in eyes and was suggested to undergo surgery. She along with three others reached a private hospital in Ratnabandha road of Dhamtari. Following, a tip about the arrival of Karuna, the Dhamtari Police arrested all the four from the hospital. The identity of the other three cadres is yet to be ascertained.

Three Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, including two women were arrested following an encounter between Security Forces (SFs) and Maoists in the forest area near Indinar village in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on January 20, reports The Pioneer. The operation was launched on an input about the presence of senior Maoist cadres in Basaguda-Gangaloor-Kirandool areas. Superintendent of Police (SP), Anjaneya Vaishnav said some Maoists escaped, adding that the three who were arrested were Guddu Kusram, Hunga Alwam and Indo. Kusram, who carried a bounty of INR 100,000, was the Gangaloor Local Squad Organization (LOS) member.

A woman Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre, wanted in a case related to an attack on a Police party in 2021, was arrested during a raid by the National Investigation Agency (NIA)-Raipur in Bhopalpatanam area of Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on January 29, reports latestly.com. Madkam Ungi alias Kamla, a resident of Muthamadgu in Bijapur District, was arrested and subsequently, produced before the NIA Special Court in Jagdalpur, an NIA spokesperson said. Kamla was arrested by the NIA-Raipur in connection with a case pertaining to the attack by armed CPI-Maoist members on Police and Security Force (SF) personnel near Tekalgudiyam village in Bijapur in 2021, that resulted in death of 22 Policemen and injuries to 30 others, the NIA spokesperson said.

"All the seven apprehended were Nimmalagudem's Revolutionary People's Council (RPC) militia members of the banned Communist Party of India (CPI) Maoist Party," the CRPF said in a statement, adding that Satyam, Joga, Manga and Unga are RPC members for the last three years; Aitha and Joga are RPC members for the last two years, while Bheema is an RPC member for the last year.

Chhattisgarh Police arrested four Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) supporters from Bhothali village in Dhamtari District of Chhattisgarh on February 7, reports The Pioneer. Following a tip that some goods had been brought to be provided to the Maoists in Dhamtari and Gariabandh districts, a search operation was launched. Gariabandh, Superintendent of Police (SP) identified the four as Tamradhwaj Sahu alias Rinku, his father Shivkumar Sahu, Rakesh Kashyap and Ishwarlal Netam, all from Dhamtari District. The Police also seized 12 walkie-talkies, Naxalite uniforms and other items from them. The arrestees admitted that they work for Naxalites, attend their meetings, spread Maoist ideology in rural areas, extort money from traders and contractors, and hand it over to the Maoists. They also supply ration, daily use and other essential materials for senior Naxalite cadres. They also buy walkie-talkies through an online platform for the Maoists.

Two Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, identified as Bhima Podiyam and Hirdesh Kumeti, carrying a collective reward of INR 1 million on their heads, were arrested from forest of Mandanar village in Kanker District of Chhattisgarh on February 7, reports The Pioneer. Kanker, Superintendent of Police (SP), Shalabh Sinha said, Podiyam, who carried a bounty of INR 800,000, was the ‘commander’ of Platoon 17 of the Kiskoda Area Committee, while, Kumeti was a member in the same platoon, carrying a reward of INR 200,000 on his head. The Police seized a walkie-talkie, a 5 kilograms Improvised Explosive Device (IED) bomb, an axe, Maoist literature and pamphlets from them.

An encounter took place between Security Forces (SFs) and cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) in the hilly area of Paria Forest under Gadiras Police Station limits in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh on March 2, reports The Print. After firing from both the sides for some time, the Maoists escaped from there saving their lives. During this, the District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnels arrested a Maoist couple, identified as Muchaki Hidma and Kunjam Kosi, with a reward of INR 1 million. Acting on a specific input about the presence of Maoists in Kottalendra in a bid to carry out a major attack on National Highway-30 (connecting Sukma town to Konta), a joint team of personnel from Konta and Errabore Police Stations and the District Reserve Guard (DRG) was dispatched in the area, Sukma Superintendent of Police (SP) Sunil Sharma said. When the patrolling team was cordoning off the forest area near Kottalendra, an exchange of fire broke out between the two sides, and seeing the SF personnel zeroing in on them, the Maoists escaped from the spot. On June 18, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested two persons, identified as B.Ch. Padma alias Modem Padma alias Lalita and Dubasi Devender, for the July 2019 attack on Security Forces (SFs) by the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) elements near Tiriya village in Jagdalpur Tehsil (revenue unit) in Bastar District of Chhattisgarh, reports The Hindu. Padma, who earlier operated as a ‘divisional committee member (DCM)’ of the CPI-Maoist and was currently acting as a coordinator between front organisations and the outfit. Devender, who was closely associated with the CPI-Maoist allegedly worked as a courier for them and secretly transported their messages (both paper-based and digital) and facilitated anti-national activities. Six CPI-Maoist operatives and one civilian were killed in the incident that took place in a forest near Tiriya in the Nagarnar area of Jagdalpur. The NIA took over the case on March 18, 2021, along with several other cases related to the allegation against the banned outfit that it carried out terrorist activities in Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.

Out of the four Maoists arrested, a reward of INR 100,000 each was announced for two Maoists. A joint team of District Reserve Guards (DRG), Bastar Fighters, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) 230 battalion personnel of Dantewada District caught these four Maoists while searching in the forests and hills of Hurrepal and Kondapal, Maoist-affected areas of the district. On interrogating the arrested Maoists, all four confessed to being involved in the incident of the arson of vehicles. During interrogation, the Maoists told the Police that more than 50 Maoists were involved in the arson incident, out of which the names of some Maoists have also been revealed. After this, the Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the named Maoists and intensified the search operation.
