About 25 armed Maoists barged into his house in the said village, dragged him out and brutally assaulted him to death. A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre was killed in an exchange of fire between Security Forces (SFs) and Maoists in a forested area under Tarrem Police Station limits in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on January 19, reports NDTV. While the Maoist was shot dead by the SFs, a District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel was injured after he invertedly stepped on an Improvised explosive device (IED) planted by the rebels during the operation. “Multiple gunfights took place between SFs and Maoists in the forests under the said Police Station around 450 kilometers away from capital Raipur. The team included personnel from DRG, Special Task Force (STF), Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) personnel of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and District Force,” Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sundarraj P said adding that “following one of the encounters, the body of a Maoist was found from the spot while DRG assistant constable Jogeshwar Paikra suffered injuries in an IED blast.” The SFs also recovered a 12 bore gun, uniforms, IED, Maoist literature, etc. from the site. The identity of the slain Maoist is yet to be ascertained.

A cadre of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) carrying a cash reward of INR 100,000 on his head was killed in an encounter with Security Forces (SFs) in a forested patch between Geedam and Jungampal villages in Dantewada District of Chhattisgarh on April 11, reports The Pioneer. Inspector General of Police (IGP), Bastar range, Sundarraj P said, “In an exchange of fire between Dantewada DRG and Maoists of Katekalyan area committee at about 2 pm, a Maoist’s body was recovered.” The slain Maoist was identified as Vetti Hunga, ‘militia commander’ who carried a reward of INR 100,000 on his head, the officer said. More Maoists are suspected to have been killed or injured in the action. An 8 mm pistol and a country made muzzle loading gun were recovered from the spot. Also, a two kilograms Improvised Explosive Device (IED), crackers, Maoist literature, medicines and items of daily were also found.

Security Forces (SFs), comprising District Reserve Guard (DRG), killed a Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) local ‘military intelligence in-charge’, identified as Kosam alias Kosa, in an encounter in the forested terrain of Neelawaya in Dantewada District of Chhattisgarh early on April 20 (today), reports The Hindu. Kosam, a resident of Mallapara in Neelawaya, and was active in the CPI-Maoist for the past 15 years. He was also the Malangir ‘area committee member, ACM’, and was wanted in connection with 15 crimes involving Naxal [Left Wing Extremism, LWE] actions. A pistol and a country made Bharmar, a muzzle-loading gun and three kilograms of Improvised Explosive Device (IED), backpacks, medicines and other items of daily use have also been recovered from the encounter site. Following information about the presence of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) Malangir Area Committee ‘chief’ Somudu, Kamlesh Santosh Mukesh, ‘area committee member, ACM’, Lakkhe and others around 10-12 armed cadres of the Malangir Area Committee in the hill of Tikan Pal Gacha Para under Kirandul Police Station area, a search operation was launched by a joint party of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) in Dantewada District in Chhattisgarh on April 18, reported Glibs. Seeing the Security Forces (SFs) the Maoists fled the Maoist camp and the SFs recovered seven Naxal [Left Wing Extremism, LWE] literature copies, cooking utensils, two pieces, flashlight, mirror, brush, toothpaste, soap and other daily use materials from the Maoist camp.

SFs comprising of District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Dantewada Police Personnel had an encounter with Naxals [Left Wing Extremism (LWE)] of Bhairamgarh Area Committee after receiving information of presence of Naxals, identified as Anil, Sunita, Lakshmi, Moti, Soni, Sundari and Sanju. CPI-Maoist cadres fired on the SFs with the intention of killing the jawans and looting weapons and fled during the counter firing by the Police. Sukma, Superintendent of Police (SP), Sunil Sharma said Madavi Pojja (45) and Batta Vinod (21) were arrested by a joint team of the District Police Force and 201st Battalion of Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), an elite unit of the Central reserve Police Force (CRPF), from the forests of Peddabodkel village. Suspected Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres owing allegiance to the Aamdai Area Committee of the CPI-Maoist allegedly killed a supervisor and set ablaze four vehicles at a road construction site at Madhonar village in Narayanpur Tehsil (revenue sub-division) under Chhotedongar Police Station limits in Narayanpur District of Chhattisgarh on September 23, reports Hindustan Times. Bastar Range, Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Sundarraj Pattilingam said that the incident took place on September 23 evening at Madhoner village of the District, and around two dozen Maoists were involved in the attack. Sundarraj said the attackers thrashed the labourer at the construction site before setting ablaze a Joseph Cyril Bamford (JCB) machine, two tractors and two motorcycles there. The labourer who died has been identified as Sandip Bajan, who belonged to a village near the construction site. Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) scheme, an approximately 10-kilometres-long road is being laid from Chhotedongar to Madhonar. A Maoist pamphlet was found at the spot, in which the Maoists have warned villagers to stay away from development activities, the official said, adds outlookindia.com.

The posters in the name of Mazdoor Sanghatan (Labour Organisation) were found tagged to trees at Ammapenta and nearby villages under the limits of Kistaram Police Station on Saturday (September 25), Police said. The organisation wanted the Naxals [Left Wing Extremists, LWEs] to let the tribal children of in the villages to choose their future by going to schools and colleges. The posters clearly indicate the growing dissent among tribals towards the Maoists, Police added. On the other hand, Maoist posters appeared at Sameli village of Sukma District appealing to villagers to make the ‘Bharat bandh’ [all India shut down strike] called on September 27 to protest against the Centre’s three farm laws’ a success. Eight Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres were arrested from a forest near Morpalli village under Chintalnar Police Station limits in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh early on November 6 (today), reports republicworld.com. Among the arrested were Kawasi Raju alias Santu, known as a 'battalion member', and Kalmu Mada, a 'militia company commander', Superintendent of Police (SP), Sunil Sharma, informed. The two Maoists had a reward of INR 800,000 and INR 500,000 on themselves. The identities of the other six Maoists are yet to be ascertained. SP, Sharma stated that an FIR has been lodged against all eight accused and the Armed Forces have recovered explosive devices and equipment. As per Police, 35 detonators, six gelatin rods, two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), batteries, wires and other unlicensed objects and tools were seized from their possession.
