Six Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast during a search and encounter with Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) in Chaibasa town in West Singhbhum District of Jharkhand on January 11, reports ptcnews.tv. "Six personnel of CRPF's elite COBRA [Commando Battalion for Resolute Action] battalion were injured on Wednesday in a bomb blast after an encounter with the outlawed CPI(Maoist) at Tumbahaka forest in Jharkhand's Naxal-affected West Singhbhum district," a senior Police official said. According to the Police, when the Security Forces (SFs) approached, the Left Wing Extremists (LWEs) opened fire. "This prompted the security forces to retaliate and the Naxals were forced to retreat triggering the blast. A massive search operation is on to track down the extremists," the Police added.

The Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) triggered three Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blasts in West Singhbhum District of Jharkhand on January 13, when Security Forces (SFs) were carrying out search operations but nobody was injured in the explosions, reports Outlook India. Superintendent of Police (SP), Ashutosh Shekhar said the SFs were carrying out search operations in Tumbahaka Forest when the IEDs exploded, however, all the personnel of law enforcing agencies were safe and no injury was reported in the incident.

A trooper of the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), jungle warfare unit of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), suffered serious injuries in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast, suspected to have been triggered by the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, in Tumbahaka forest in West Singhbhum District of Jharkhand on January 20, reports The New Indian Express. Acting on inputs from the Maoist movement, security personnel, including personnel of the CoBRA battalion and the Jharkhand Jaguar (JJ), along with Policemen, were carrying out a combing operation in Tumbahaka Forest, when the explosive went off, injuring one of them, Superintendent of Police (SP), Ashutosh Shekhar said. According to the SP, the Police had information about the presence of top Maoist leaders, including Misir Besra alias Sagar da, Patiram Manjhi alias Ramesh Da alias Anal da and Asim Mandal alias Manoj da alias Akash da, in the area, and had accordingly launched an operation to arrest them. The operation was also aimed at inculcating confidence among villagers, ahead of a 24-hour Jharkhand bandh (general shut down) called by Maoists on January 22, in protest against the arrest of Krishna Hansda, a Jharkhand ‘regional committee member (RCM)’ of the CPI-Maoist, from Giridih District, he added.

Police recovered 160 rounds of live bullets on the disclosure of Niral, who had been a of the squad of PLFI ‘area commander’ Sanichar Surin, and Santosh Kadulna, and is currently working for the squad of ‘zonal commander’ Sukhram Gudiya. Following information that Naxalite [Left Wing extremist, LWE] Niral Purti had come to his house, Police laid siege and arrested him. At the same time, the Police also arrested Naxalite Birsa Purti, who used to collect ‘levy’ (extortion money) from the contractor for the PLFI.

Five Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), suspected of having been planted by the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) in a kuccha road between Chota Kuira and Maradiri villages in Goilkera Police Station limits in West Singhbhum District of Jharkhand, were seized by security personnel during an anti-Naxal [Left Wing Extremism, LWE] operation in the Kolhan region on April 19, reports republicworld.com. The Superintendent of Police (SP), Ashutosh Shekhar, said four pressure IEDs weighing two kilograms each and a five-kilogram IED were unearthed during the operation. All the explosives were defused by the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the SP added.

A joint team of Police personnel and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troops destroyed a Naxal [Left Wing Extremist] camp that was being operated in a remote forest area near Ambia village under the Goilkera Police Station limits in West Singhbhum District of Jharkhand on April 30, following a brief exchange of fire, reports The Avenue Mail. During the operation, a large cache of explosives like detonators were recovered from the camp, along with other incriminating material. It is learnt that top leaders of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), identified as Misir Besra, Anmol, Mochu, Chaman, Kande, Ajay Mahto, Sagen Angaria, Ashwin, along with their squad members are roaming in Kolhan area for subversive activity.

The Security Forces (SFs) successfully foiled a major threat to public safety as they recovered and defused two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), one weighing five kilograms and the other eight kilograms, planted by cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) in the jungles (forests) near Maradiri village under Goilkera Police Station limits in the West Singhbhum District of Jharkhand on June 5, reports The Avenue Mail. Acting on intelligence inputs, the SFs launched a comprehensive operation in the region and during their search and combing operations, they unearthed the two IEDs, which were concealed in a remote area, intending to cause harm to innocent civilians and SFs to disrupt peace in the region. Specialized Bomb Disposal Squads (BDS) neutralized the IEDs in a controlled and safe manner.

According to the Police, the blast took place at about 12.15 p.m. [IST] at a forest stretch between Tumba Haka and Sarjamburu villages in the Kolhan Forest division while the Security Forces (SFs) were defusing the three IEDs recovered from a bush.
