State Police Spokesperson SN Pradhan said the incident took place in the bordering area of Dhanbad and Giridih District where the rebels had laid several landmines. As soon as one of the IEDs was triggered the gelatin rods in a series started blowing one by one and a total of 52 landmines were exploded,” he said. “Topchanchi Police Station in charge Dharmdeo Ram and Inspector S Mishra were leading the LRP, while a CRPF team made up the tail of the convoy. Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres blew up railway tracks near Dumri Vihar of Gomia block in Bokaro District on two consecutive days of October 10 and October 11, reports The Times of India. The pamphlets found from the blast site contain a message where they condemned the State Government for amendment of the Chhotanagpur Tenancy Act and for favouring capitalists. The incidents were the second and third ones in the last five days. Maoists blew up three points on the same railway track on Gomia-Barkakhana route under Dhanbad railway division of East Central Railway (ECR). Unlike the previous two blasts, on October 11, Maoists blew up the tracks at 1.30 pm near Dumri Vihar. Apart from goods trains, short distance passenger trains like Gomoh-Choupan passenger and Barkakhana-Asansol passenger were affected due to the incident. The traffic on the route was disrupted for nearly 10 hours till a railway team reached the site and reinstalled the broken railway lines. "Maoists are targeting the rail tracks as they are public property. Mostly passenger trains ply on this route. The incident caused inconvenience to local passengers who were traveling on this route during the festive season," said Manoj Krishna Akhouri, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Dhanbad railway division. The first incident occurred on October 6, when Maoists set a railway engine on fire and blew up a railway track near Dumri Vihar railway station. On October 7, Director General of Police (DGP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), S K Bhagat along with senior Police officers had visited the site to assess the situation and a search operation was launched by the State Police. Three days later, the Maoists blew up the railway tracks again. Sources said that the blast was triggered by a Maoist squad that came from outside the District. Local Maoist ‘commander’ Santosh Da was also with them. Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Koylanchal, Saket Singh said a massive anti-Maoist search operation is being conducted in the jungles near Dumri Vihar. Necessary directions have been given to Police officers to avoid repetition of such incidents. The restoration work was completed by the railways in the presence of Police. Maoists who have almost lost their ground in jungles of Gomia block are trying to register their presence through such attacks, Police said.

Suspected People's Liberation of India (PLFI)cadres blew up two concrete sleepers of tracks detonating Improvised Explosive Device (IED) between Khelari and McCluskieganj stations in Ranchi District on October 16, reports The Telegraph. The tracks fall on the Coal Indian Cord (CIC) section of Dhanbad division, which suffered three blasts in Bokaro District between October 6 and 11 during the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) ‘protest week’. A gangman on patrol noticed the damaged sleepers, around 8.30am. Dhanbad Railway Protection Force (RPF) commandant A.N. Jha said there was no major damage to railway property. "No passenger train was affected though a goods train had to be detained for some time," he said. The Police recovered from the spot batteries and connecting wires used to trigger the explosion. "Preliminary probe suggests PLFI involvement though the area is known as a Maoist stronghold. The Ranchi Police are probing the case," Jha added. PLFI is a splinter group of the CPI-Maoist.
