Two people were killed and 15 vehicles were set ablaze at Ghat Pindari near Wadrafnagar in the Surguja district by Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres on January 26, District Collector Manoj Pingua was quoted as saying in Pioneer. The Maoists, who had called for a nationwide shutdown on the occasion of Republic day celebrations, had stopped vehicles at Ghat Pindari and set ablaze 15 vehicles. According to Devarakonda Deputy Superintendent of Police, Srinivas, the Naxalites descended on the workplace where workers of a private contractor were collecting uranium samples and asked them to stop the work forthwith. Alleging that "this (uranium mining and processing) is a World Bank-sponsored project", the Naxalites warned them of action if they continued any work related to the project. Later, they set ablaze two rigs after pouring diesel. The damage estimated was close to Rs 2.5 million.

According to the police, the Naxalites set ablaze the construction contractor’s jeep and a generator set before escaping with the abducted persons. Maoists ambushed the convoy of Ashok Singh when he was returning after campaigning for zila parishad (district body) elections, for which he was a candidate. In two separate incidents, Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres blew up a portion of the railway track and set ablaze a railway cabin in Bihar on April 25. Although no one was hurt during the attacks, the Maoists abducted three railway staff of Narganjo station, eight kilometres from Jhajha under Kiul-Asansol section of the Eastern Railway, soon after demolishing the cabin in the halt station. The hostages were, however, set free on April 26-morning. Jamui Superintendent of Police Sharukh Majid said two powerful bombs were also recovered from the tracks near Narganjo. "Two can bombs of 5 kg and 10 kg were fixed with the tracks and attached to detonators by a 100-metre-long wire," he said. In another incident, Maoists blew up railway tracks near Dashrathpur railway station on the Kiul-Bhagalpur loop section. The explosion reportedly occurred soon after Jamalpur-Kiul DMU Passenger passed from Dashrathpur station in Munger district. Due to the twin attacks, railway service remained disrupted for hours on both the sections.

According to New Indian Express, approximately 60-armed Maoists stopped the Hyderabad-bound buses in the middle of a forest and told the passengers that bombs had been placed in the buses and asked them to alight. The target of the attack was the Prime Minister's Gram Sadak Yojana road project, which the Maoists believe will give security forces better access to insurgents’ hideouts, police sources said. A senior police official said, “The guerrillas use a forest corridor to travel to and from Jharkhand. If good roads are built, security forces can step up vigil.” The incident is the latest in a series of attacks in the region in the run-up to a state-wide shutdown called by the Maoists on December 14.

Extremists belonging to the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) stopped a Mumbai bound goods train between Bortalao and Darekasa railway stations in the Gondia district, bordering Chhattisgarh, on December 10 and set it’s engine afire. According to Hindustan Times, a group of 50 armed Maoists stopped the train using a signal light and a red flag and then tried to detonate a dynamite to destroy the engine. However, as the dynamite failed to explode, they doused the engine with kerosene and set it afire. One side of the engine was totally damaged. The Maoists also have pasted posters near the railway crossing and announced a bandh (general strike) in Gondia and Gadchiroli districts of Maharashtra and Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh on December 15 in protest against alleged police excesses in the region.

Suspected Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI- Maoist) cadres carried out simultaneous raids at Bakulacocha checkpoint of the Dalma foothill and Pinderbera forest guesthouse atop the hill, around 10-km from Jamshedpur on December 20, reports Telegraph. Sources said, a group of four or five youths swooped over the Bakulacocha check-post, close to the NH-33 in Chandil. The attackers carrying shovels and spade thrashed the forest guards and snatched about INR 4,000 from their possession. Another group of six or seven youths attacked the Pinderbera forest guesthouse atop Dalma hill. Maoists set a mini-truck, a generator set and beds on fire with diesel taken out from the mini-truck. Besides, the looting of cash, the rebels had snatched four walkie-talkies and as many cell phones from the guards. The insurgents left posters with the CPI-Maoist tag-carrying message denouncing the administration for depriving tribals from the forest and warned against the displacement due to industrialisation. The superintendent of police, Laxman Prasad Singh, said, “We are planning to carry out a combing operation on the hills, spread across 198 sq km,” he said, adding that the situation would “not be allowed to be deteriorated further”.
