Police and residents said New Bharath Stone Crusher which is close to the Chekkeri Kurichya colony near 24th Mile was vandalised and set afire by a gang of five around 2.30 am after they threatened employees at gunpoint. A group of about 20 armed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres attacked a road construction company's camp site at Motipur in Muzaffarpur District of Bihar a little after January 10 midnight and burnt nine heavy vehicles and machineries worth about INR 30 million, reports The Times of India. Giving details of the attack, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ranjeet Kumar Mishra said Vaishali-Muzaffarpur sub-zonal committee of the CPI-Maoist has taken the responsibility of the attack through four handbills left on the site. The Maoists alleged the attack was made to punish the agency for ignoring some directions issued to it sometime back. But the agency failed to inform the Police about any such direction, the SSP said.

The Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres retaliated to the killing of one of its senior leaders Sharath and a militia member near Korukonda shandy on October 19, 2014, after it killed a native of Veeravaram village Sanjeeva Rao, by destroying an ashram of Sanjeeva Rao’s spiritual guru Simhachalam at Gurramveedhi village in G. Madugula mandal administrative unit on January 17 night, reports The Hindu. During the October, 2014 incident Sanjeeva Rao’s guru Simhachalam escaped from being tried at a ‘praja court’ while the Maoists were attacked. The Maoists had also beaten up six persons in the Ashram and burnt down furniture and other material and a shed and some vehicles. An earth-moving equipment engaged in laying a nearby road was also set on fire. The Korukonda local area committee was responsible for the incident. Along with some Maoists, a large number of militia members and sympathisers allegedly participated in the incident. They reportedly left pamphlets and hung a banner saying that the Ashram was attacked in retaliation to the killing of Sharat and the militia member and that Simhachalam would not be spared.

The Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres on January 22 set on fire around 14 vehicles of an Andhra Pradesh-based private company engaged in road construction in Dhanora tehsil (revenue unit) of Gadchiroli District, reports The Times of India. The Maoists roughed up a few labourers and their supervisor when the work on the Gharanji-Pustola stretch was underway for connecting road between Edampayali and Korkoti. The road connects major market places in Maoist -hit tehsils Dhanora and Pendri. It is learnt, eight tractors, two trucks, one road roller, couple of JCB machines and a pickup van were among the vehicles which were set on fire. Couple of motorcycles belonging to the workers too may have been damaged.

A road-roller and a Hyva tipper were set on fire by insurgents during the evening hours while the labourers were engaged in construction of road located on Awapalli -Basaguda road. According to Superintendent of Police (SP) K L Dhruv, a group of insurgents walked to the construction site when the Road Opening Party (ROP) had returned to the camp after patrolling. The insurgents poured fuel on the two vehicles deployed for road construction work and torched them, he said.

The vehicles were parked at the site where road construction work was underway when they were set afire, Inspector General (IG) of Police (Bastar Range) SRP Kalluri said. Around 12-15 armed Maoists, clad in black uniforms, stormed the place with kerosene and asked construction workers to leave the site. Some villagers asked them not to hamper development works in the region but the ultras did not pay heed to them and set ablaze the vehicles, the IG said. While six tractors belong to locals, the rest of them were belonged to a construction firm, the IG said. Villagers have lodged a complaint in this connection at Dhanora police station, the IG said.

The Maoists left a written warning that no villager should work for any forest department programme such as plantation, protection monitoring etc. “Around 50-60 Naxals (left Wing Extremism, LWE) came at midnight, took two of the cylinders in our stock to the range office and ignited a blast. All documents were gutted in the fire,” said a senior forest official. “Naxals have warned the villagers not to work for us in any manner,” he added. Churachandpur Deputy Commissioner Lunminthang Haokip said that on August 31, two persons died of bullet injuries, one was charred to death as the houses were set on fire and the fourth died in a road accident caused by road blocks. He, however, could not say who fired the shots. Minlan Gangte, information secretary of the Kuki Students Organisation, Churachandpur stated that "The amendment of the bill disturbs the rights of the tribal people. People are angry because our representatives did not speak for us when it was passed in the Assembly," He said the land law has not been extended to the hills till now and if it is extended to the hills it will disturb the tribal people's rights.

D. Tirki said. The vehicle was heading towards Benoor from Narayanpur when about 12 armed Maoists stopped it near Bodra nullah. After forcing the the truck’s driver and helper to alight they burnt the vehicle, he said. While escaping from the spot after the offence, they allegedly took the helper along with them assuring the driver that they would release him after a few hours. However, no communication has been received till now about his whereabouts, the officer said.
