Two persons from the Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangh (CMAS)-Bandhugaon received serious injuries when the two factions of the CMAS – CMAS-Bandhugaon and CMAS-Narayanpatna blocks of Koraput District attacked each other on the road between Baunsput and Dasini in the Bandhugaon block (administrative unit) on September 6, reports The Hindu. According to sources, members from the CMAS-Bandhugaon were waiting with their traditional arms near Dasini, two kilometers from Bandhugaon, and people from CMAS Narayanpatna stood near Baunsput, five kilometers from Bandhugaon on the road towards Narayanpatna in the same block. The conflict between the two groups arose in connection with the attacks by members of CMAS-Bandhugaon on the houses of the supporters of CMAS,-Narayanpatna in the evening of September 5. Members of the CMAS-Bandhugaon had also abducted about 40 supporters of the CMAS Narayanpatna from Kabiribadi Panchayat (village level local self government institution) and kept them at Sarpali in Bandhugaon block as hostage so as to discuss the issue of limiting their activities across each other’s borders.Earlier, on September 3, the supporters of the Narayanpatna-CMAS had entered Bandhugaon and destroyed 14 lemon grass processing units. They had also forcefully taken over 400 acres of land on which lemon grass had been cultivated. But the CMAS-Bandhugaon activists had alleged that the land taken over by the CMAS-Narayanpatna activists was already taken over by them in the past. It had irked the Bandhugaon group.

A supporter of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist)-backed Police Santrash Birodhi Janasadharaner Committee (PSBJC) was shot dead and five other PSBJC supporters suffered bullet injuries in a clash with Security Forces (SFs) in front of the Satpati camp in the Lalgarh area of West Midnapore District on December 11, according to The Hindu. Though the name of the victim, Tilak Tudu, was confirmed by the Superintendent of Police (SP) Manoj Kumar Verma, the identities as well as the exact number of the injured could not be established till later in the day. According to the PSBJC spokesperson Asit Mahato, the SF personnel opened fire on villagers in the evening of December 10 when the latter protested against alleged high-handedness of the SFs. "Several CPI (M) cadres, dressed as security force personnel, have taken shelter at the Satpati camp. They were misbehaving with the local residents when the villagers protested…one of our supporters, Biplab Betal, was killed on the spot as the forces started firing at the local crowd and five more were injured," Mahato told The Hindu over phone from the Lalgarh region. The SP Verma, however, denied that the Police had opened fire at first and claimed that the SFs retaliated only when suspected Maoists in the crowd fired at the camp. Further, the PSBJC leadership called for a gherao of the Satpati camp in protest against incident of its supporters being fired at. Elaborate security arrangements were made around the Satpati camp to avoid any more untoward incident. The PSBJC supporters put up blockades on the road connecting Lalgarh with Midnapore town with felled tress at several places. There were also reports of torching of houses of Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-Marxist) supporters at some places late by suspected Maoists. Meanwhile, the PSBJC called for a bandh (shut down) in the three Maoist-affected Districts of West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia on December 12 (today).
