Birpur zonal committee member Palaram Tudu was killed when the attackers opened fire at him on a paddy field in the Jamjhulka village under Belpahari police station, Inspector General of Police (Law and order), Raj Kanojia, said. "We are not ruling out the involvement of the Maoists," he stated. Deputy Inspector General of Police (Udhampur-Doda range), Lalat Indu Mohanty, disclosed that SFs launched a search operation at Tatta Pani in Navapachi in the early hours of April 13 after securing information that five top commanders of three outfits were holding a joint meeting to co-ordinate their activities and step-up militancy in Doda district. As the troops reached close to the hide-outs the militants opened firing, which was replied by the SF personnel and in the consequent encounter all five militants were killed. Out of five, identity of three of them was established as Imtiyaz, Abu Buzana and Gulfam, all commanders of three different outfits. After securing information from the civilians regarding the abduction, security forces (SFs) launched a search operation in the Judi Bagda forest area where both civilians were being held captive. In the ensuing encounter, one of the civilians, Ayub, attempted to escape from captivity. However, he was shot dead by the terrorists. Later, the SF personnel killed one terrorist, Mohammed Saif of the Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HuM) and also succeeded in rescuing the other civilian. At least two terrorists reportedly managed to escape during the cross-firing. Mayurbhanj District Collector, Suresh Vashisth, told The Telegraph that around 10 armed Maoists stormed into the Sarguda forest beat-house in Rairangpur forest division and dragged Rabindranath Patra, out of his house. "Then they set the beat-house on fire and took Patra around half-a-km away before putting a bullet through his head," said Vashisth. Before leaving, the Maoists also put up posters on the trees demanding the "end of oppression" by forest officials, he added. The Maoists, three of whom were women, were suspected to have crossed over from the neighbouring Jharkhand and went back to the neighbouring State after the incident, police said. Forest officials said Patra reached the area on May 7 in connection with the elephant census being undertaken and had attended a wedding feast at a nearby area on May 8-night.

Posted as DySP Operations in Jammu, Shailey Singh, whose father Inspector Udhey Vir Singh was also killed by the terrorists in 1993, was shot dead inside the house of a State Forest Corporation employee at Udrana. There was no other casualty on either side but a Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) ‘divisional commander’, Abu Umar, was reportedly trapped by police in a house. Three terrorists and three soldiers were killed in a gun-battle in the Gagal forest area of Kupwara district on June 12-evening, according to Daily Excelsior. According to specific information, six cadres of the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) were present at a jungle hideout. In the ensuing encounter, terrorists killed soldiers Ram Kumar and Abdul Hameed Charu and wounded six others initially. One of the wounded is reported to have later succumbed to his injuries at the 92 Base Hospital in capital Srinagar. In retaliation, troops shot dead three militants. One of them, according to official sources, had been identified as LeT’s Kupwara "Financial Chief" Abu Moosa, a Pakistani national. Officials informed that Moosa had been continuously operating in Lolab valley since 2002. Three militants of the group managed to escape from the incident site.

The Maoists shot dead a former Naxalite at Kallagunta village in the Guntur district on July 24-night accusing him of being a police informer, according to New Indian Express. 22-year old Nomula Mariadas had joined the Maoist fold four years ago. After working in the movement in various capacities, he surrendered to the police at Veldurthi police station in April 2005. However, after surrendering, Mariadas allegedly formed a gang and took to extortion. A case was registered against him at Amarabad police station in the Mahboobnagar district, in connection with which he was arrested a year ago.

According to Daily Excelsior, in the first Fidayeen (suicide squad) attack since October 2006, security forces (SFs) killed both the militants at an encampment on the premises of Bhaba Atomic Research Centre at Zakoora on the outskirts of capital Srinagar on July 26. Director General of Police, Kuldeep Khoda, informed that two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants made an unsuccessful attempt to sneak into a formation of the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force at the defunct BARC facility at Zakoora. Both the militants, who emerged from a deserted orchard, lobbed hand grenades and opened gunfire on the pillboxes in the near of the camp. Even as eight soldiers sustained injuries, the troops shot dead both the militants and also recovered two AK-56 rifles and three hand grenades from their possession. He said that one of the slain militants was identified as Feroz Ahmed Khan, a resident of Kangan in the Kashmir valley, and another was believed to be a Pakistani national. A LeT spokesman, Abdullah Ghaznavi claimed responsibility of the two-and-a-half-hour-long attacks and reportedly identified the slain militants as Feroz Khan alias Abu Muslim and a "guest militant" Abu Ma'az.
