Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani during a meeting in Quetta on April 15 which reviewed the law and order situation in the province decided to launch a targeted operation against terrorists involved in sectarian and other killings, reports Dawn. The meeting decided that a free hand would be given to the Police and other law-enforcement personnel to deal sternly with the terrorists. The meeting approved both short- and long-term security plans prepared for Quetta by the officials concerned. It also resolved that a committee comprising members of the Provincial Assembly would monitor the implementation of the security plans. Home Secretary Nasibullah Bazai told the meeting that under a security plan Quetta was proposed to be divided into 20 zones. More check posts would be established in and around Quetta.

Officials confirmed the death of six persons. Police officials said the intended target of the bombing might have been a bus with Shia pilgrims that passed the area minutes before the explosion. The target of the bomb attack was passenger coaches carrying pilgrims to Iran via Taftan,” a Senior Police Official said, adds Dawn. No group claimed responsibility for the attack.

As many as three Shias were shot dead on August 16 on Arbab Karam Khan Road in the Sariab Police Station area of Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan, reports Daily Times. According to Police, the three men belonging to Hazara community were going somewhere in a rickshaw when unidentified assailants opened fire on the vehicle near the Farooq Mill area of Arbab Karam Khan Road. As a result, one of the men died on the spot and two others sustained serious injuries. The two injured died on their way to the Civil Hospital Quetta. Two of the deceased were identified as Khadim Hussain and Abdul Ali, both in their mid-twenties. The third body could not be identified so far
