A FC spokesman said Security Forces (SF) received information about the presence of TTP militants in Murgha Kebzai area and dispatched troops there. He added that when they reached the area, militants opened fire from a compound, injuring two FC personnel. Troops then returned fire and killed five militants. Later, during a search operation, they recovered a rocket launcher and several machine guns.

At least 10 Government officials were abducted and later released after the killing of two alleged suspects on March 9 in the Killi Misezai area of the Qilla Abdullah District on March 9, reports Dawn. According to sources, personnel of the Frontier Corps (FC) and the Anti-Terrorism Force launched a search operation in Maizai Addah area on a tip off about the presence there of a gang involved in abduction for ransom and other heinous crimes. Armed militants opened fire on the security personnel, injuring an FC soldier and destroying two vehicles with rockets. An intense clash continued for over an hour. “Two criminals involved in abduction for ransom were killed in the exchange of fire,” an FC spokesman told the media. 15 other people were injured. Later, 16 suspects were arrested and a large quantity of arms and ammunition seized. “Many members of the kidnappers’ gang were arrested,” the FC sources said.

According to official sources, acting upon a tip-off, SFs had beefed up security at the Buleli Check post and intercepted several vehicles. They discovered five hundred kilograms of explosive materials, seven detonators and six landmines from one of the vehicles. Four Afghan nationals were arrested and a large quantity of explosives and ammunition were seized in Kuchlak area of Quetta, reported Dawn. The four Afghan nationals taken into custody were identified as Abdullah, Amir Mohammad, Sher Alam and Abdul Bari. The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) (operations) Quetta, Qazi Wahid, said that Kuchlak Police intercepted a Quetta-bound wagon and seized during its checking three boxes of explosives, 145 mines, 204 remote control systems, 51 remote-controlled bombs, 3,000 metres of original fuse and other items.

At least 18 persons, including 13 members of a militant outfit, were killed on June 8 in a fierce gun battle with Security Forces (SFs) in Chagai District, reported Dawn. “The leader of the gang, Mohammad Azam, was killed in the gunfight,” Chagai Deputy Commissioner, Doctor Tufail told the media, adding that the criminals killed in the fierce gunfight were wanted in several heinous crimes. Soon after the incident, Levies and armed tribesmen started pursuing the assailants and surrounded them in a mountainous area of Zarkan. The armed militants opened fire on the Levies personnel and tribesmen, who returned fire, killing 13 militants of the group. Five tribesmen were also killed in the gunbattle which continued for several hours during which the assailants used heavy weapons, including rockets and RPG. However, Levies personnel remained unhurt in the encounter. “The gang has been active in Chagai and other Districts of Balochistan for 20 years,” Doctor Tufail said, adding that it was wanted in a number of cases of murder, looting, attacks on Government and security officials and abduction-for-ransom. A large quantity of arms and ammunition, including heavy machineguns, RPG, rockets, rocket-launchers and other automatic weapons, loaded in two vehicles were seized. Police arrested three alleged target killers, involved in the killing of some Ulema, after heavy exchange of fire in the Jinnah Town of Quetta. Three arrested persons were identified as Jahangir Haider Shah, Nadeem Abbas and Qaisar Abbas — belonged to Dera Ismail Khan and had come over to Quetta on a mission to kill people. This was disclosed by Deputy Inspector General (Investigations) Hamid Shakeel at a press conference. City SP Khalid Manzoor and other senior officers were present on the occasion. “They confessed to the murder of seven important religious and other personalities in different areas of Quetta,” Mr Shakeel said. Soon after making the arrests, the police raided the suspects’ house in Faisal Town and recovered a motorbike, weapons, their national identity cards and some important documents. Mr Shakeel said that during interrogation the three men confessed that they were headed for Killi Ismail area to attack an important personality.
