Security force (SF) personnel clashed with Islamist militants at Zakerkhel village in North Waziristan in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) on May 22, killing three foreigners and one tribesman, according to Dawn. The gun-battle reportedly occurred when talks between tribal elders and militants hiding in a house in the village failed. According to the deal signed between the government and militants in September 2006, the army has to take the peace committee into confidence before taking action in the area. Security forces, assisted by helicopter gunships, killed 15 militants in an encounter near the Banda checkpoint in North Waziristan on July 31, according to Dawn. Major General Waheed Arshad, Director-General of the Inter-Services Public Relations, said 18 "miscreants" were killed when about 40 of them tried to attack a military checkpoint near Miranshah, Daily Times reported. Though the military spokesperson denied any casualties among the troops, villagers said some soldiers were killed or injured in the fighting. The clash reportedly occurred when two vehicles were seen moving towards a paramilitary post, some five kilometres south of the Miranshah town. Even as the troops fired warning shots from the Banda post, people in the vehicles fired back at the paramilitary forces and an encounter ensued. The troops later also utilised Cobra helicopters which targeted suspected locations of the militants in the area and the two vehicles. Sources said that the troops had encircled the Banda area and the Miranshah village.

Seven soldiers were killed and 18 others sustained injuries on August 24 in North Waziristan in four militant attacks, including two suicide bombings targeting the same Pakistan Army convoy at two different places, according to The News. One of the suicide bombers rammed his explosives-laden vehicle into the military convoy near the Qamar Picket built on a roadside hill near the Mir Ali town, killing five soldiers and injuring 10 others. Cobra gunship helicopters reportedly attacked suspected militant hideouts later but reports about any loss of life were not available. The same convoy, which had come from Bannu in the North West Frontier Province and was on its way to Razmak, was attacked once more when it proceeded further. Another suicide bomber riding a vehicle struck the convoy near Asadkhel village on the road to Razmak, killing two soldiers and injuring two others. Villagers in Qutabkhel said gunship helicopters shelled the area after the attack on the military convoy. Military officials were later quoted as saying that two militants were killed by the troops in retaliatory firing. The third convoy to be attacked was reportedly transporting troops from the paramilitary Frontier Corps (FC) from Qutabkhel to Miranshah, the headquarters of North Waziristan. Three FC personnel were wounded in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack that targeted the convoy.

According to The News, seven people, including five militants - three of them senior commanders, were killed while three others sustained injuries in an encounter between militants and the security forces (SFs) in the Makeen area of South Waziristan on September 10. Some officials of the political administration in Wana, headquarters of South Waziristan, however, claimed that 13 militants, including three senior commanders - two identified as Ehsanullah and Bhutto - were killed. Taliban militants attacked a military base near the Afghan border on September 13, leading to an encounter with the security forces in which at least 50 militants and two soldiers were killed, according to Dawn. Eight soldiers were wounded in the clashes. Military spokesperson Major General Waheed Arshad said security forces repelled repeated militant attacks. Army helicopters and ground fire destroyed four militant positions, he added. He said the army’s initial estimate was that at least 30 militants were killed, but added later that tribesmen informed officials that up to 50 militants had died in the military attack. He dismissed a claim by militants that they had killed over 100 soldiers in the region in the past two days as "totally false" and "baseless". As reported earlier, the security forces also killed around 40 militants on September 12.

Local Taliban militants shot dead six alleged criminals to avenge the death of their four associates in the Pandialai tehsil (administrative division) of Mohmand Agency in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) on October 11, reports Dawn. They also abducted six other ‘criminals’. Locals told Dawn that the militants attacked a hideout of Yousaf Khan, an alleged anti-social element, in the Dwezai village of Pandialai during their ‘anti-vice campaign’. Four local Taliban militants were killed when the ‘criminals’ fired back. Eyewitnesses said that after the exchange of fire, hundreds of Taliban supporters surrounded the house of Yousaf Khan, who had by that time left the place along with his family, and set it ablaze. Residents said that the Taliban later traced down the fleeing ‘criminals’ in the Kasorai mountains of Tamanzo area killing six of them while abducting six others. During the past one month, militants have killed at least eight persons in their drive against ‘crimes’ in the agency. Two of them were reportedly beheaded.
