The Federal Minister of Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said on January 14 that the number of proscribed organisations actively engaged in terrorism and extremism in Punjab alone had reached 95, reports Dawn. During the briefing on the status of implementation of the National Action Plan to counter terrorism and extremism, Chaudhry Nisar said that law-enforcement agencies were proactively monitoring madrassah to check the spread of terrorist ideology in the country. While an official statement released after the meeting did not include the names of the banned organisations in question, the new number was substantially greater than the total number of organisations listed as banned in the national security policy document the Government put out in early 2014.

Jama'at-e-Islami (JI) Chief Sirajul Haq while addressing a rally on Multan Road on January 16 warned that the anti-Islam policies of the west could plunge the world into the third world war, reports The News. He said that the respect of the Holy Prophet was an essential part of a Muslim’s faith. Thousand of faithful across the country came on roads to express their anguish over the fresh publication of blasphemous caricatures by a French Weekly and vowed to render every sacrifice to safeguard the sanctity of the Holy Prophet. The call for the protest had been given by Haq. He announced million marches in Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi on January 23, 205, in continuation of the protest. He also stressed upon Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to call for an emergency meeting of the Muslim rulers to lodge protest with the French Government on this score and to stress upon the United Nations to frame laws ensuring respect for all the Prophets of Allah and all the revealed books.

An unnamed Police Official of the investigation wing on March 13 said that the Lahore Police has received the geo-fencing information of the suicide bomb blast outside Police headquarters at Qila Gujjar Singh in Lahore District on February 17, 2015, which revealed that attackers were receiving instructions from militants in Afghanistan, reports The Express Tribune. The official said that after the bomb blast the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) carried out the geo-fencing of the crime scene which revealed that the terrorists had been in the Qila Gujjar Singh area for two days and were in contact with an outfit in Afghanistan from whom they were taking directions. “The target of the terrorist was the Police lines which they failed to target with perfection,” he added. He added that 11 alleged terrorists are in police detention and we are interrogating them. The Provincial Police Chief confirmed that Police Lines was the intended target. “The bomber wanted to enter Police Lines but exploded prematurely,” Inspector General (IG) Punjab Mushtaq Ahmad Sukehra said. After failing to get into the Police Lines, the bomber detonated the explosives strapped to his body in front of a nearby multi-storey building that had offices of travel agencies.

Union Home Minister (UHM) Rajnath Singh on March 21 stated at Attari in Amritsar District, "End atmosphere of terror and learn to live with peace", reports The Times of India. Addressing a gathering at Attari border post, Rajnath recalled former Prime Minister A B Vajpayee's words "we can change friends but not neighbours" and said the government wanted friendly relations with Pakistan. "Vajpayee had offered the hand of friendship to Pakistan. He not only wanted friendly ties with Pakistan but heart-to-heart relations between the people of the two countries. But what did we get in return? Kargil war," he said. Stating that despite Kargil, India had showed its generosity and again extended the hand of friendship towards Pakistan, he said, "So far, we have not been able to achieve what we want". "Pakistan has to consider stopping the business of terror and prevent turning green pastures into red with blood of innocent people. Terror has to end," he added.

Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) founder and Jama'at-ud-Dawa (JuD) Chief Hafiz Muhammad Saeed while delivering Friday sermon at Jamia Qudsia mosque on Lytton Road in Lahore District on May 15 warned that without eliminating the secret interference of United States and India in the country, neither the terrorism nor the Karachi-like killings could be controlled, reports The News. It was the duty of Government and the Law Enforcing Agencies to trace and arrest the secret enemy agents and their operatives and expose their identities and patrons before the whole nation. Hafiz Saeed warned the rulers against taking heavy foreign loans on high interest rates for continuing their own luxuries at the expense of the poor who would have to pay those loans back in the shape of huge taxes and duties. Further he said, the rulers must abolish interest based economy to invite the mercy of Allah Almighty for bringing back the progress and prosperity as promised by Him. He said enemies were continuously hatching conspiracies against the Muslims and targeting the Ismaili community was also the part of the same plot to provoke different groups into fighting against each other in the country.

Federal Minister of Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on August 9 said in an official report on the implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) against terrorism and extremism that Law-Enforcement Agencies have so far placed 30 religious seminaries in the "suspect" category which have been closed, reports Dawn. Two of the suspect seminaries were from Punjab, 15 from Sindh and 13 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. No seminary in Balochistan has been placed in this category since the launch of the NAP in December 2014. Although the report does not explain in so many words what is meant by suspected madaris, a senior official involved in the implementation of the NAP said that suspect seminaries are the ones that have some direct or indirect connections with militants or their activities. According to the report, Sindh is the only Province which has taken concrete action and has so far closed 72 unregistered seminaries. No such action has been reported from the other three Provinces.

Commissioner Asadullah Khan during a press conference on December 10 said that educational institutions are on threat alerts and a security strategy has been devised in a meeting with schools’ heads of Multan Division and Security Agencies, reports Dawn. “As there is a background to these threats, we’ve increased the security of educational institutions as we have to fight terrorism,” he said. He said educational institutions would install surveillance cameras and hire trained security guards. He said terrorist elements were using social media to trap the students. He said counseling sessions for students, especially of the BZU, would be held regarding extremism and violence. Regional Police Officer (RPO) Tariq Masoof Yasin said that educational institutions needed to take measures to counter radicalism among students. “Only the head of an institute will take action against the students and faculty members involved in spreading extremism,” he said. He said the police would not take any direct action in any educational institution because of their sanctity. “Action will only be taken if there are intelligence reports or the administration of the institution requests us to do so,” Yasin added.
